Simpson & Serioux Millwall debut

Recommended Posts

for millwall against lecester. I think a lot of us are really looking forward to seeing serioux play at right back - if any one is interested in getting some real honest feed back after the game the best site would probably be house of fun (www.hof.org.uk) then go to controversial corner on the site. This will be a real test for us today - leicester are one of the teams fancied to do really well this season.

COME ON YOU LIONS

Wow, what a month for serioux....

One week he was being cheered by the hardest group in all of canada and now hes being cheered by the harest group in england :)

Only problem with canadians is that the hardest group has 10 guys .. and in england they got 5000 :)

From house of Fun:

FULL TIME: MILLWALL 2 LEICESTER 0

I have never, in all my time of watching Millwall, seen a debut like that. Serioux was head and shoulders above anything on the pitch -- an utterly complete midfielder who, on the day, excelled in every department. Dichio put it beyond doubt, a cool finish after Wise's ball put him through, but we could have had four, with Moore missing some excellent chances and Dichio missing a couple. An excellent all round performance, but absolutely everyone will be raving about Serioux. Cahill? Who he?

Millwall 2-0 Leicester: FT Report

PA

Millwall recorded their first victory of the season with a convincing 2-0 win against Leicester.

Micky Adams' side struggled all afternoon and also had Chris Makin sent off in the closing stages while the Lions were bright and direct.

Chairman Theo Paphitis has expressed a desire to leave the club at the end of the season - but more performances like this could persuade him to stay.

The Foxes barely created a chance in the first half, with Lions player-manager Dennis Wise's midfielders battling their way into the lead.

Wise and Jody Morris snapped at opponents while Adrian Serioux was composed on the ball and started most attacks.

Serioux made his debut after he was scouted during a pre-season tour of Canada. He is most effective sitting in front of the back four but his huge throw-ins allow an attack whenever the ball goes out in the opposition half.

Mark McCammon was the first to benefit from this new set-piece in the third minute for Millwall when he headed towards the bottom corner only for Ian Walker to claw it to safety.

The striker was almost through on goal three minutes later, but Martin Keown used his Premiership experience to guide to the ball back to his keeper.

Keown was at the heart of a very physical first half and was constantly involved in clashes with Millwall players.

Referee Steve Dunn was kept busy all afternoon with Keown and centre-back partner Nikos Dabizas frequently offending. Wise was also involved in a scuffle with striker Marvin Elliott on 17 minutes.

Tempers flared 10 minutes before the break when Keown committed a wild two-footed foul on David Livermore. Wise and his players were furious that he was not shown a red card, but stayed in the Foxes' half and applied pressure.

They were ahead within two minutes when Serioux launched another throw-in from 45 yards and Morris got a slight flick to divert it past Walker for the opener.

Striker Danny Dichio was enjoying Serioux's service and was a constant aerial threat. He headed wide midway through the first half and again on 66 minutes from six yards out.

Leicester's strikers were not posing the same threat and home keeper Graham Stack made his first save in the first minute of the second half when he palmed away a header from Jamie Scowcroft.

But the visitors spent much of the second period defending attacks - with Dabizas at his best to prevent a second.

The Greece defender was also the most likely to grab an equaliser as his side mounted pressure - heading over and having a shot cleared from under the crossbar by Wise.

But Dichio finally got the better of the former Newcastle man when he chased a long ball from Wise after 76 minutes. Dabizas was shrugged off the ball and was on his backside when the striker prodded past Walker.

It was a rare mistake from the centre-back and he continued to deny the home side. On-loan striker Stefan Moore was brought on for McCammon and was through on goal before Dabizas robbed him in the penalty area.

Moore was through again three minutes from time after receiving a glorious ball from Elliott and was hacked down by Chris Makin - Dunn had an easy decision to send the defender off and compound the visitors' misery.

The striker, being borrowed from Aston Villa, should have added a third in injury-time when he was through on goal. He sent Walker the wrong way but the former England stopper managed to stick a foot out to divert it to safety.

Looking at the Millwall board on Rivals.net, they can only say good things about our boys. Things such as,"both canadians were superb". Even saying how they believe now that their season will go ten times better than planned because of serioux and simpson. I'm lovinggg this! :) This kinda stuff is giving me goose bumps.
