HEARTS hit triple trouble last night just before the big kick-off.

The Edinburgh outfit have lost marksman Mark de Vries, utility man Kevin McKenna and keeper Tepi Moilanen for the opening game at Dundee.

Their absences leave boss Craig Levein with no room for manoeuvre.

Dutchman De Vries limped out of Saturday's warm-up game against Fulham. A scan has revealed the muscle damage is more severe than first thought and he will now be out of action for another couple of weeks.

McKenna, the play-anywhere Canadian, would have been the ideal stand-in striker with his power in the air, but is suffering from tendonitis and has been ordered to rest.

To complete the misery, Finn Moilanen has gone down with a viral infection and has been confined to bed.

Last night Levein said: "This is the last thing we need for the opening game - we're operating with a very limited squad."

However, there is hope two other casualties, new signing Jamie McAllister and Scotland defender Andy Webster, will be fit.
