Guest Can. in UK
After briefly scanning various team web-sites, it seems as though we may have some injury worries for the start of qualifying. De Vos, McKenna and Bircham are all facing fitness tests. Considering our lack of depth at the back, this may be a problem.
An Observer
The De Vos and McKenna concerns would be our biggest fear as we are already thin at the central defender position.
Guest Can. in UK
Two scenarios to consider: If they were able to play in Saturday's matches, would they risk aggrevating their injuries by playing for Canada the next week? Or Would they skip Saturday's league matches to be fit for the qualifier?
Guest Can. in UK
Iain Hume has picked up a thigh strain. May not play tonight.
Cheeta
Hume was suspended anyway. Still, lots of games coming up fast so hopefully it's just a wee rest for the thigh. Big Kev didn't dress saturday. Don't exactly know if he's going to make the trip. Such as things are at Hearts he's probably one of the few players we have who would be allowed the time off for national team duty without too much grumbling. Same for JDV. Reads like he's gotten on pretty smartly over at Ipswich. Very glad for it and as much as he'll be missed I don't think anyone's going to turn this into a club-country pissing contest. Everyone knew WCQ was going into high gear and who he was before signing. Who backs up Onstad is what I want to know.
Ivan
Cheeta, it appears Sutton has got the call.
nolando
I would say with Hume missing the Guatemala match due to suspension that any possible Bircham injury or reaggravation would be very significant to the Nats, especially given the majority of posters' comments that they don't want to see our budding star Peters there even in a supporting role off the bench (is it really me that is still smoking the BC bud?)... We have a number of solid options if Bircham isn't healthy. Peters is a find prospect, and I am damned excited that I got to see him play in Victoria last year, but we may want someone with more experience. Even Nsaliwa would be a better option right now. His adult body and Bundesliga-2 experience would place him higher on the starters list than Peters.
El Hombre
quote:Originally posted by Can. in UK De Vos, McKenna and Bircham are all facing fitness tests. JDV apparently is still suffering from a sore knee but Skysports has him starting for Ipswich today, which is a good sign.
Guest Can. in UK
De Vos mentions on the Ipswich web-site today that he should not have played last night. He says the knee feels better but is unsure if he'll be fit for Saturday. In regards to the national team he said: "Although playing for my country is important to me, my responsibility to Ipswich comes first." Very diplomatic.
