DJT
East Quarterfinal results from Tuesday and Wednesday: West Mass. 0 at Boston 1 Rochester 0 at Montreal 3 New Jersey Lady Stallions 0 at Long Island 1 If I understand correctly, the East semifinals and final are all at New Jersey Wildcats on Saturday and Sunday. Semifinals: Long Island vs. Montreal New Jersey Wildcats vs. Boston Montreal and Long Island had identical regular season records, so a trip to the East final looks possible for the Xtreme. But then New Jersey seem unbeatable. Central Semifinal results from Wednesday: Charlotte 2 at Hampton Roads 0 Fort Wayne 2 at Chicago 3 Central final, date and location TBA: Chicago vs. Charlotte West Final on Saturday: Seattle at Vancouver
DJT
East Semifinal results from Saturday: New Jersey Wildcats 2 Boston 0 Long Island 4 Montreal 5 AET Wow, check out the scoring in the Montreal match: LI: McCabe (O'Brien) 4 MON: Lesage (LaPalme) 6 LI: Mustonen (Prinzevalli) 8 MON: Lesage 17 LI: O'Brien (Prinzevalli) 26 LI: Stansfield (O'Brien) 35 MON: Vanderpool (Vallencourt) 41 MON: Vanderpool 57 MON: Pinard 117 This is the only article I could find on this match, from Soccer America Magazine: quote:Montreal Xtreme moved within one victory of becoming the third Canadian team in the W-League final four, pulling out a wild 5-4 overtime triumph over the Long Island Lady Riders at MCCC. Marie-Claude Pinard's 117th-minute header, from former WUSA midfielder Amy Walsh's cross, lifted the Xtreme, which surrendered four first-half goals and rallied from deficits three times. There were three goals in the first eight minutes -- with former Toledo standout Melissa Lesage scoring for Montreal between goals by Long Island's Kerri McCabe, a former Stony Brook standout, and Minna Mustonen, a Finnish national-teamer who played for the New York Power in 2002. Lesage scored again in the 17th minute for a 2-2 tie, but former Florida International star Michele O'Brien fired the Lady Riders ahead again in the 26th, and former Hofstra standout Penny Stansfield extended the lead with a free kick nine minutes later. Canadian U-19 player Caroline Vanderpool, a freshman at LSU this fall, scored goals in the 41st and 57th minutes to force overtime. Congrats to the Xtreme, but the Wildcats are next... Final result from Sunday: New Jersey Wildcats 6 Montreal 5 Holy cow! No details available yet, but that sounds even more thrilling than the match above! Too bad for Montreal, but the Wildcats are tough, with several internationals (including the Canadian Willis sisters), so this sounds like a good result for Montreal despite the disappointment, hanging in there with perhaps the best team in the league (we'll see). Central Final result from Sunday: Chicago 2 Charlotte 1 AET West Final result from Saturday: Vancouver 1 Seattle 0 Franko 45', attendance 3,886, Whitecaps match report Congrats to the Whitecaps! That should make up for last year's disappointment. W-League Championship Tournament August 7-8 at Ottawa Hosts: Ottawa Fury West: Vancouver Whitecaps Central: Chicago Cobras East: New Jersey Wildcats
Ivan
I notice for the Xtreme, Vaillancourt assisted on a goal against Long Island, then scored 3 and assisted on another in the loss against New Jersey. Is this the same girl who played so well at the U19s in Edmonton, then seemed to disappear? If so, I think she is still eligible for the next U19 tourney in Thailand. More details are now available: NJ: Pichon (Sands) 16 NJ: Pichon (Sands) 21 NJ: Pichon (Makinen) 44 MON: Walsh (Vaillancourt) 45 MON: Vaillencourt (Walsh) 47 MON: Vaillencourt (LaPalme) 55 NJ: Makoski 65 MON: Hemsley (Walsh) 66 NJ: Pichon (Sands) 85 NJ: Pichon (J Willis) 89 MON: Vaillencourt (Nonen) 90 Great stuff from Montreal, coming back from a 3-0 deficit just before halftime to tie it up within 10 minutes of playing time, then quickly responding to NJ's fourth goal. Too bad they let it get away in the last five minutes, but even then they didn't quit, getting one back and giving the Wildcats a scare. (Shades of the last WVCE match, another last-minute disappointment.) All in all, a great inaugural year for the Xtreme! New Jersey had given up only 5 goals all season prior to this match! And 5 goals for Pichon in this match; she's the French international star. W-League report quote:Originally posted by DJT W-League Championship Tournament August 7-8 at Ottawa Hosts: Ottawa Fury West: Vancouver Whitecaps Central: Chicago Cobras East: New Jersey Wildcats The semifinals are: Ottawa vs. New Jersey Vancouver vs. Chicago So an all-Canadian final on FSWC is possible, though we might not see either team. The word out on her was she wasn't interested in continuing with the National program or playing in the W-League. She had refused offers to play for Montreal this season as she was content to play in Quebec City. I guess she changed her mind also regarding going to school. Now the question is if in fact she is going to LSU this year, has she kept herself out of the National program regarding Thailand.
