Rocket Robin
Result of the Tuesday July 27th, 2004 CPSL game between North York Astros and London City played at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan at 9:00pm. 6 min...City Paul Munster GOAL...City Kadian Lecky rushes down right wing and crosses to Munster who one touches 10 yarder under bar beyond goalie Arthur Zaslavski. 7 min...City Paul Munster GOAL...City Kadian Lecky rushes down middle and back heels to roll cross for Munster to roll 10 yarder into right corner of net. Final Score:............North York Astros.......0.........London City..........2.......... Attendance was about 40 on this warm miserable drizzly night. There was a misty rain the entire game. This should be a pretty bad write up filling out the details for my web page after the season is over as I couldn't hold an umbrella, hold a notebook, write the moments down, and peer through binoculars to get some numbers of who took corner kicks. City started out fast enough with these two early goals but the game evened out the longer things went on and City goalie Haidar Al-Sahibani had to be sharp to keep the shutout. The game ended at 11:00pm. That's quite a drive back to London and quite a few of these players have to work tomorrow. Ex-Astros player Kadian Lecky was the fastest player on the field and got some good runs up the wing. Some Astros fans grumbled that he was given plenty of time to develop with their team but couldn't score. He has six goals this year. Paul Munster was pressing for the hat trick and rushed some poor percentage shots. Referee Gord Arrowsmith kept the tempers in check. Both teams were looking for the fast break on turnovers as soon as the goalie made a stop, the goalie could clear the ball and set up a scoring chance for his team with forwards swarming around the defenders. The wet field meant balls could be kicked harder to the wing without as much risk of the ball rolling out of bounds so that set up some long rushes down the wing. Both teams suffered from their defense allowing forwards to rush through them. Many players were slipping around in their boots on the wet field despite the ground being ‘field- turf’. Rocket Robin
Finally saw London City play and that means I've seen all eleven teams play (16 games so far). I should be able to see everybody a minimum of three times.
Astro_man
What did you think about the Astros? Don't you think we were a little unlucky in this game?
Rocket Robin
Not a good start for the Astros getting behind so fast but they had enough chances to tie the game and win. The London goalie was sharp and many Astros shots were off target.
Rocket Robin
Details of the Thursday July 29, 2004 CPSL game between Toronto Supra and Vaughan Shooters played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 8:30pm. 73 min...Supra Michael Diluca GOAL...Supra Gianni Annisi beats offside trap on right side and has clear run as he cuts towards net and he passes to Diluca all alone for 5 yard tap-in on left to center of net around goalie Pablo Alvarado. 98 min (injury time)...Supra Pedro Dias GOAL...Dias on 3 on 2 break boots 15 yard shot from right around back up goalie Felpe Bento to low right corner of net. Final Score:.....Toronto Supra........2...............Vaughan Shooters...........0........ Attendance was about 100 people on this hot humid evening. There was a long injury time in the second half which was only supposed to be two extra minutes because Vaughan goalie Alvarado was injured in the 90th minute when he slid in his box to block Supra Fabio Silva's shot and looked like he took the ball in the face. Michael Silva earned the shutout for the Supra and both he and Alvarado made some key saves and forced some bad shots. Both teams had enough chances for at least four goals each (well OK, Supra could have scored eight). Supra captain Danny Amaral had about half dozen chances on headers that he put either right to the goalie or off target. Both teams had their goalies give their players quick breaks by either punting the ball upfield quickly or spotting an open man.
