A-league wages

Has to be higher than that. The figures mentioned here of 4500$, 1500$ 10000, to me, can't be possible. That is way too low, would anyone bother playing if the time you spend at it doesn't allow you to earn a living? Better off working as a Sales clerk at sporting goods store rather than play for that kind of money. I know that the a-league only represents 4-5 months work but players have derive some sort associated income from playing in the A-league. Maybe they get a change to hold summer soccer camps and get a percentage of the revenues. If the figures you guys mentioned are their only source of revenues during the a-leagues months, then you cannot live off of that in a city like Toronto where ven rent for a month is around 1000$. If players have second jobs during the a-league months, then you woudl be hearing stories about players missing games because of work conflicts, I would think.

10 grand is enough for a full time summer job in my opinion. Im not saying the full time players get that. But guys like Steele on the lynx or maybe a Dodds, would get somthing of that sort since they are still young and not 100% proven.

Im pretty sure that the lynx lifers (Joe, Dave and Serioux) were getting in the 20's

Works out well for someone like Joe M I would think in that he went to teachers college and is qualified to teach and earn a living that way. The a-league sched also fits well into the school calendar. The question I have is, is if you cannot pay enough for the players to commitment themselves fulltime to the game, then how could you ever improve to the point of ever attracting interest from European clubs. The other players up for those jobs ARE going to be full-time players. Therefore, there is no way that our guys could compete. Yet there have been quite a few who've landed jobs accross the pond.

Marty Nash has said that the players at Rochester get US$25,000-$30,000 annually, which is the high end for the league. He also stated that his return to Vancouver was motivated, in part, because Vancouver now pays wages close to par with what Rochester pays (which means Vancouver is now near the top in terms of payroll.) This probably explains how Vancouver have been able to lure Carlo Corazzin, Nicky Dasovic and Davide Xausa back home from the Europe.

I wouldn't be surprised if Montreal is close to Vancouver, just based upon the calibre of players they've got, but I don't know for sure.

You guys are fogetting that Charleston is paying the same if not higher salaries than Rochester. Virginia Beach has a rich owner that forked out some high salaries to get some of high priced talent out there. Too bad they draw flies.

Of course players have other jobs. In Vancouver Alfredo Valente works in his parents Italian restaurant when he's not playing. Keeper Alex Marques, now one of the top keepers stats wise in the league, has a full time job duing the season as a concrete prefabricator. 6.30am-2.30pm and then straight off to Whitecaps practices at 4pm.

The question was asked to Nick De Santis at the beginning of the season

Here is his answer (in french) :

Ça dépend des équipes. Je pense qu'on peut dire sans se tromper que les meilleurs joueurs vont toucher entre 10 mille et 12 mille dollars par mois, en argent américain, bien sûr.

(the best players have between 10.000$ and 12.000$ US a month)

Some A-League teams do pay good salaries and Nick DeSantis's answer makes sense because a number of players stay with the A-League instead of making the jump to MLS. I believe Jason Jordan was offered a contract by MLS a year ago, but he turned it down because he was making more with the Whitecaps. Charleston was able to lure ex U.S. national team player Eric Wynalda away from the MLS two years ago.

For how many months do they get paid then?

Also does a player who gets paid anually have to train or commit to the team the whole year, even if the season is only for 4-5 months?

I was just wondering what was the average salary for the old CSL? How much did star players such as Catliff, Mitchell and Mobilio earn?

if i recall correctly catliff worked throughout the year for a sportsware manufacturer(umbro?)

mitchell and mobilio were pulling in over 100.000 U.S. in the MISL

good question, what did CSL players get paid.
