Guest Jeffery S.
From Teamtalk today; that is League Two, perhaps the right step up from Wales: IMPS AWAIT RAYNER CLEARANCE Lincoln are waiting for international clearance before completing the signing of Canada goalkeeper Simon Rayner. The 21-year-old, who spent last season with Port Talbot, has agreed a one-year deal at Sincil Bank. He impressed in the friendly defeat at King's Lynn on Thursday and will hope to put pressure on first-choice goalkeeper Alan Marriott. Rayner will replace Darren Horrigan, who was released at the end of last season. He has played at international level for the youth, under-20 and under-23 sides, and has previously been on the books at Bournemouth and Barry Town. Lincoln manager Keith Alexander has also finalised defender Nathan Peat's three-month loan deal from Hull City, but is still looking for a striker ahead of the season's opener at Shrewsbury. Ivan
Are Lincoln still in the league or are they conference? Shrewsbury are conference unless thay were promoted last year.
Andrew W
Lincoln play in the new Division II, formerly know as Division III, one step above the Conference.

Gian-Luca
Well he's still young and it's nice that he's gotten out of Wales - hopefully he'll start some games in the English 3rd Division (or whatever it is now called) and will continue to progress. Another keeper option to keep an eye on in the upcoming years in the event of a rash of injuries/suspension/struggling starters at the national team level. Seaking of young keepers, I was extremely impressed with what I saw from Alim Karin in that game versus Spain at the WYC. Also, from written reports, I reacall that he really kept us the game in some of ther earlier group matches. He looked really confident and sharp. Gobbled up crosses very well and could relly kick the ball. I am curious to see where he will end up. I realize that he is still in College, But does anyone have any info as to when he is exepect to graduate?
Winnipeg Fury
This would be a great signing for Canada & Rayner, especially if he could muscle in for some first team action.
bungey
Alim will be a junior next year, so he should have 2 more years left. Here's his school stats: www.suathletics.com/roster.asp?playerid=1044&sport=173&roster=
Guest Jeffery S.
Today's Lincoln site says this, indicating the Rayner signing is still pending: "Also on the transfer front and, contrary to reports in the local and national media, the Imps have not signed Canadian under-23 international goalkeeper Simon Rayner, who played for City in the final quarter of an hour against Nottingham Forest. City manager Keith Alexander has, however, made a verbal offer to the 21-year-old, who is currently on the books of Welsh Premier League side Port Talbot." This suggests that some modest transfer would have to be put out, since he is still under contract in Wales.
Winnipeg Fury
With Raynor closing in on a contract with Lincoln, Kenny locked in at ESK, and Fernandes breaking into PAOK, the heat is growing for Lars. It would be nice to know which club he is training with ?

Guest Jeffery S.
Geez, what a surprise. If anyone knows who his agent is I'll tip him for a couple second division Spanish clubs who could use keepers. Half serious only, but I mean, given his credentials for us, why is it so tough for him to come up with something? Sure, after Spurs it may feel like a step down, but maybe that is not so unreasonable in his case. Perhaps what was unreasonable was for him to go from Calgary to Canada to Spurs to begin with. Guest Georgio
I think he needs another agent myself. Radz's seems to really look out for him. Some serious over expectations or dismal PR going on there. Somebody's not working for him or he's aquired an ego problem. I mean promotion chasing England Div 1 (formerly div 2 teams) can not be disgarded even at the stage when Yallop was stating two mths ago he better find a club and quick. I mean he's gotta think he will have an impact on the success of a team. How many teams and multitudes of contacts could have been exhausted this far along by an agent all accross UK and Europe. I'd say more then what appears to be the case. Somebody is deficient in one or all of the following: networking, value assessment, and negotiations. Is it Lars or his agent?? MikeD
I spoke very briefly with Lars after the second Canada-Belize match in Kingston. We didn't discuss his club situation, just a very quick "congrats on advancing to the next round, I really appreciate all you've done for the national team" sort of discussion. The only reason I bring this up is that I was surprised as hell to notice that Lars has picked up an English accent. He even called me "mate". I once spent a few months in London (UK), where I hung around with a mixed crowd of Canadians, Aussies and Brits, and it struck me that the Canadians who really liked Britain started sounding British and talking like Brits after a while (I wasn't one of them). This is just wild speculation on my part, but I wonder if Lars has got his heart set on staying in England or Scotland and this narrowing of his options is partially responsible for his failure, so far, to sign for a club. I don't blame him for holding out for first team football though. He's getting on into his late twenties now and it's time he started playing first team football somewhere. Winnipeg Fury
quote:Originally posted by Andrew W He trained with both Calgary and Edmonton last week according to posters on both teams fan message boards. I find it unbelievable that Lars is sitting in Canada at this time of year. Pre-season in Britian and he's sitting in Alberta ! Something is not right here. Surely he could challenge for a job in at least second-tier Scandinavia or lower division England or Scotland. Is the problem Lars, his agent, or something else ? There has always been dissagreement between the Voyageurs as to his quality, but there's no doubting the fact that he should be able to land a job in many European second divisions. The clock is ticking on Lars maintaining one of the top two goalie positions with Canada.

bettermirror
i'm sure he's already lost the back-up spot. as much as i wish he was our number 1, he needs a club by august 1 to at least get the third through sixth game semi-final back-up spot. Winnipeg Fury
If Lars was kicking balls around Alberta, it's very surprising that Yallop didn't call him for the B-Team friendlies. And yes, I would personally agree that Lars has lost the #2 spot in goal for Canada. Unfortunetly, I'm not so sure that's how Yallop feels. There's definetly more to this Lars story than we know. Guest Jeffery S.
If Lars is going to lose his spot for Guatemala, at least now we have other options clearer. Kenny was called before, we perhaps owe him our thanks for his responding, but I am uncomfortable about bringing him halfway across the world when 2nd tier Sweden does not stop play for FIFA dates and his club is struggling, especially since he'll probably not get off the bench. Sutton looks to be the man: shorter flight (can come in and out quickly), good season. What kind of fixture conflicts could he have? Or Zagar. Perhaps look at their fixtures and chose to disturb the least, as both clubs are fighting for a stronger playoff position. If Daniel Fernandes had a few more games in with PAOK -official matches too- that would be a good way to go, but perhaps he needs to be brought in a bit more slowly. At least they are free on FIFA dates, right now in fact our only keeper on a team that does not play when Canada's semis fixtures are on.

I would still go with Kenny. If it were a meaningless exhibition match I could go with your reasoning, but not World Cup Qualifying. Kenny just signed for 2.5 years with ESK and is considered one of their main players. He won't lose his spot with ESK and we need our best. If ESK drop, it may be a bonus as Kenny would probably be snappped up by a larger club.

sstackho
Wow, time to retitle this thread. Who knew Rayner could have a 20+-post thread? Looks like Crystal Palace's deal to sign a second keeper this summer has fallen through. So they're still in the market for a keeper. And they even played against Lars last season when he was on loan with Gillingham. Generally, I'd prefer to have Lars be a starter in the 2nd or 3rd tier of England, but for Palace, I'll make an exception.

Yes, I would think that someone would have to get injured right now to open up a roster spot for Lars at some club. Wasn't there a story a while back that Kilmarnock ( I think) were looking a several keepers to fill a spot? Lars was mentioned alongside some pretty strong candidates including ( if I recall correctly) the keeper from Czech national team.
