Landskrona site indicates Aguiar had a minor arthroscopic intervention today and could be out for up to three weeks. I think the team man suggests that the injury was had in Landskrona and not something from before. Could either of you in Sweden translate or summarize this for us, appreciate it. It's short.

27/7 Aguiar opererad

Today Fernando Aguiar received an "astroskopi" on his knee. The test showed that he had a minor injury to his "menisk" (no idea what that means), and it's been decided that something must be done immediately. The operation is no more serious than that Aguiar will have to rest for a few day before he can start training again. After that it's estimated that he'll need about 2-3 weeks to get back to 100%. This means that he should be match-ready for the away game at AIK on the 23rd of August...

- When [Aguiar] came to Sweden he was totally healthy. The injury came during training or a b-team match...

- You couldn't see the injury on the x-rays that were taken when he was in pain. Because of that we decided to check more closely and then we discovered the problem. Now we know what it is and Fernando is very relieved.

Thanks for that. Meniscus, classic knee problem, though they don't exactly say what the problem was. But this period out is minor. Keep up with those bench presses Fernando!

That would be the meniscus, a cartilage slate in the knee. Injuries here can be crippling, but it doesn't seem to be that seriuos in this case.

Anyways, watched the Helsingborg game yesterday. Great fun, not at all as lop-sided as the result would suggest. Helsingborg must have had something like 20 shots on goal and AIK not many fewer. In the long run though, Helsingborg was the better side. Their two summer signings, keeper Daniel Andersson (from SPL club Hibernians) and defender David Ljung (from norwegian Molde) has proved important. They made defense stronger and team captain Jesper Jansson could move up to the midfield and bringing a lot of experience and determination to the fairly young guys there. Atiba for one is now much less nervous about pushing forward and I think he, after making a rather pale impression the first half of the season, now is beginning to regain the confidence he showed last season with Östers IF. The 3-0 goal was a nice little team combination where the ball went from the right side to the left over three passes, Atiba's finishing pass perfectly balanced. If you like to watch, you'll find at at the end of this clip: http://svt.se/content/1/c6/23/38/54/2004-0726-hif-aik.ram

Anyone remember who was it who was to go on trial at Lyn in Norway, a youth player perhaps?

Are you talking about Alvaro Campos going to Lyn (reserves)? There was an article posted about him on the board a few weeks ago.

Thanks. I have completely forgotten who this player is, do you have any more information on him, or know what thread it was on?

Kenny Stamatopoulos played 90 when his Enköpings SK defeated Café Opera away 2-1 in Sweden's 1st division.

Btw, I checked out the half-season statistics. Kenny, having played 13 of the 15 matches, has 4 shutouts and 72% saves. That is fairly close to the average figures for keepers in this league.

Collins John scores for Fulham and Claus Jensen impresses at Firhill...

Partick Thistle 1-1 Fulham

Fulham's pre-season preparations moved north of the border on Wednesday evening as the Whites played the first of two friendly matches in Scotland. The two hundred or so Fulham fans who made the journey up were rewarded with their first glimpses of Tomasz Radzinski and Claus Jensen as both players made second half appearances.

Fulham's first goal of the pre-season campaign came from a clinical Collins John finish but despite going close on a number of occasions, the Whites were unable to net the winning goal after the Jags equalised on the break.

The first have was largely played to the customary pace of a pre-season fixture, with neither side forcing their opposing goalkeepers into significant action.

New signing Andrew Cole, starting his first match for the Whites, fired wide in the first minute following a fine Fulham move. The front man did well to find the space required to get his shot away.

On 16 minutes Luis Boa Morte ran on to Cole's cross and saw his well-struck shot pushed away from a corner. In fact Partick's defence was having some difficulty in containing the Portuguese winger as he frequently switched flanks - keeping the home side off balance.

Fulham were also making good progress down the right wing with the impressive Darren Pratley and Liam Rosenior combining well. Yet in spite of Fulham's attacking threat, Partick continued to stick to their plan and on 21 minutes only a vital block from Pearce prevented a good opportunity for the home side.

The second half saw Fulham emerge as much the brighter side as they visibly upped the tempo of their game.

Collins John scored within minutes of the restart after he latched on to an incisive Sylvain Legwinski through ball that completely split the Jags' defence. The Dutchman finished impressively by taking the ball round Pinkowski with his first touch and slotting home with his second.

The Whites almost doubled their lead when a Boa Morte cross was met by a magnificent header from Pearce. The ball seemed destined to find the net but somehow Pinkowski performed a remarkable feat of goalkeeping and turned the ball over.

The home side equalised, somewhat against the run of play, on 68 minutes when an unnamed trialist turned home a low cross following a sweeping move.

But far from being disheartened, Fulham doubled their efforts in search of a winner. Unfortunately, through a combination of fine goalkeeping and pre-season rustiness the Whites did everything but score.

Brian McBride, making his first appearance of the pre-season after reporting back late due to international duty, impressed in attack and provided his colleagues with a number of intelligent knockdowns.

However, it was Claus Jensen's contribution that most caught the eye. The Danish international looked particularly impressive in midfield. He combined remarkably well with his new team-mates, was always looking to make himself available and used the ball intelligently.

Subs Used:

Stalteri appears to have played 90 minutes in Werder Bremen's 3-3 preseason draw with Olympic Lyon.

According to the match report he was "roasted" on one play that lead to a Lyon shot off the cross-bar, he was beaten one on one for a goal by Elber and he broke down the right and crossed to help set-up a goal for Bremen.

Couple of interesting bits from the Partick-Fulham match.

Pearce played? And Fulham's 1st pre-season goal was scored?

Ho, bhoy.

If their schedule wasn't so soft off the hop, I'd be a bit on the worried side. Still, they've got some time to come together yet. And the squad is starting to fill out.

Couple-three weeks to go!!!!

I think I am going to change my name to "Unnamed Trialist".

Gotta love those pre-season game reports. Maybe it was a streaker who scored and the ref allowed it?
