Tico Watch...

Anyone has seen the Ticos lately?

I watched their match against Cuba while away away and then their match against Brazil. Not sure how many real players they have in Copa America, but they seem to have become very beatable lately. Though they had their chances against a Brazilian B side, Brazil was tearing them apart which was quite a constrast compared to the 2002 world cup against the Brazilian A side.

Should be interesting to see what shape they are in next month...

I recognized quite a few names from the Gold Cup in the match I saw against Paraguay (missed the Brazil match), the main ones missing were strikers like Wanchope and Parks. According to a poster on bigsoccer the Paraguayan team was largely U23 & the Tico's haven't been playing well recently, but these matches were an improvement over how they performed under Sampson.

I''ve heard the opposite Sigma. They're resting a lot of their U23s - forwards Winston Parks, Erick Scott, the good defender Martinez, Lopez etc. They've brought back some older guys, of course some bigsoccer posters are calling this a 'C' team. Well they have Marin and Wright in the back. Try Bennett, Centeno, Bryce and Castro in the midfield, Gomez up front, Gonzalez in goal . . . that's not even a B team, they'll start half those guys if not more in the first WCQ.

They do look bad though don't they. Oh well, doesn't mean a thing. We'll see how they come out of the gates, because it's not going to be easy for that first trip to Saprissa.

cheers,

matthew

I`ve seen them play at Copa America and I have to say that this Costa Rican team isn`t that bad despite losing the first 2 games. At times they play pretty good one-touch football. THey have good players up front but their defense isn`t at all that good, they have speed but not enough to handle the Radz-Mobile.
