I know someone did a thread earlier about what music to listen to on the way to the MNT games.....but what do you guys think the "team's song" should be....like used in Commercials or whatever for the team (yea i think the CSA should do some sorta commercial thing on tv to help get the team more into the public eye)

the reason i just thought bout this now is ause i was watching MTV here and they had a song on thats the "offical song of the French National Soccer team"

any thoughts?

How in the hELL can great city, and Winnipeg be used in the same sentence (Or is it sarcasm)?

The trip to see the game v/ Cuba was one huge farce. First of all every person we talked to told us we were in the wrong city. In one discussion I had to produce the local TV guide to show that there was a soccer game in Winnipeg. We couldn't find a place to eat until we drove back to the highway, and we walked through an area that was 9 square blocks of boarded up buildings , like Flint Michigan. The pitch was an absolute disgrace, as it was simply a very unlevel pasture at the edge of town surrounded by all the bleachers from the local auction lots. And everywhere we went that BTO song was playing (everywhere).

Then to top it off I had to go back to watch Panama. I made sure not to talk to anyone that time.

If they have another game there I am gonna flip out. 'If you ever see me in that town again you will know that I ****ed up really bad.' (Drederik Tatum ala Simpsons)

Edmonton was an absolute delight compared to Winnipeg, where friendly strangers would ask us about the game.

I see you really want to pitch yourself as some expert about Winnipeg.

;)

Look buddy, get a map. If you were a Voyageur earlier, you would have

known where to go as we've posted it before. The fact you ended up in the wrong part of town is your own stupidity and not the city's. Lucky that you didn't catch West Nile from our giant mosquitoes ... :D

BTW, are you still asking us Winnipeg-based Voyageurs to contribute

to your proposed newsletter? I'll give you an answer [}:)]

No, no you're thinking of 'One Great City' by The Weakerthans.

Take a listen to the song, or at minimum read the lyrics, and you'll answer your own question. ;)

I couldn't get over spending 30 minutes trying to turn left across a yellow line to get into the field, errr 'parking lot' at the WSC. Oh well, Peg City is close to me and I got love for her. Reminds me of Regina. Funky, seedy towns breed funky seedy people. At least it has soul.

And props to Mr. Stackho___ for appreciating good music. I guess the song title is Winnipeg's tourism motto.

cheers,

matthew

Speaking of funky, seedy, soul. How about "I wanna Play" by the New Meanies? Heard it again on RRC radio the other day. Kinda like it. Just a thought.

The good news is after many of those abandoned pre-wars buildings became crack houses and sniff lounges local vigilanties torched them. So you now got all these empty lots between convience stores and tennements which realy improves the sight lines in the summer. You know, for when all the hookers move out of the bars and back onto the streets to take care of business.

Ask around. The Mother of WSC, Alexander Park, that was a dump. It was a dump before "they" started to let it go (knowing the city wanted the land for commercial development) and it was a real dump after that. One thing though, it wasn't out in the sticks. Don't know if you could say WSC is in the sticks anymore as half the city's moved out that a-way.

Not of course, my half. Lazy socialist and small L liberials have their own suburbs on our side of the 1919 Line.

Sorry I was a bit heavy, but I did have a bad time(s) in Winnipeg and I got really sick from drinking the water.

I would hope CSA would want to make a better impression on other teams , and new fanslike me and my pals, and that experience stopped all my friends that came from wanting to travel to games ever again. Truth be told, my Mom's whole family is from the 'peg.

I was Devastated when Calgary's adequete, with potential Mewata Stadium was torn up to make a ***ing skateboard park.:(

A few more song ideas

the ol' 40 below song

Snowbird (how about Sum 41?)

Who the hell you think you are? - Hard Core Logo Soundtrack (best Canadian movie ever)

I don't like Brian Adams but "This Time" seems appropriate

I know it's the wrong Province but I love Pirates of the River Saskatchewan by the Arrogant Worms. I wonder if it could be filked...

Original Chorus (from shakey memory):

Well it's a heave, ho! Hi, ho!

Coming down the plains.

Stealing wheat and barley and all the other grains.

Well it's a hey, ho! Hi ho!

Farmers bar your doors,

When you see the jolly roger on Regina's mighty shores.

The Last Saskatchewan Pirate, well covered by Edmonton band Captain Tractor (who also took their name from the song.) Your memory looks pretty good to me Ted; it's a great song.

Well it's a heave, ho! Hi, ho!

Roaring down the grass

Stealing balls and scoring goals and kicking

(Tico/Catracho/Chapines/Jammy/Trinny/Wetback/Yankee) ass.

Well it's a hey, ho! Hi ho!

Keepers bar your doors,

When you see the bloody maple leaf encroaching on yer shores!

Good sir, I don't have the necessary powers. But if I did, I give you my word, the Order Of Canada would be yours in a heart beat.

Hey!!!

Are you slagging off Calgary??? Well... then... why don't you just... uh, ummm... uuuhhhhh... shut the... oh... hmmmm... you just...[B)]

We did get to host a Qualifyer for the Rugby World Cup. That was pretty cool. Why do you think I've travelled about 10,000km to see events in other cities.

PS I kinda like Regina.

In Vancouver, what is the difference between a hooker and an onion?

Cutting up an onion makes you cry.[}:)]
