June 19th W-League Toronto vs Rochester

Recommended Posts

Result of the Saturday June 19th, 2004 W-League game between Toronto Inferno and Rochester Ravens at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan at 7:00pm.

81 min...Inferno Holly Lincoln GOAL...Lincoln gets to long cross on right when RR Brenna McJury can't corral it and her 15 yard shot from right is into low left corner of net beyond diving goalie Anna-Lesa Calvert.

88 min...Inferno Naomi Eguchi GOAL...Inf Keisha Garrick bashes over RR player at center line when they both go for loose ball, Garrick passes to another Inferno player who pushes left to Inf Melanie Booth runs towards goal and crosses from left that has Eguchi kick ball in from 7 yards to center of net.

Final Score:............Toronto Inferno..........2...........Rochester Ravens...........0......

Attendance was about 100 people on this cool evening with the temperature dropping quickly and the wind continuously from the north.

This was the Inferno's first win of the season and puts their record at 1-5. The Raven's are a good team this year and their record is 4-2. The Inferno had the luxury of having five substitutes this game but used only one. There was no tiring out this time and the Inferno goals came in the last ten minutes of the game. The Inferno had more of the chances but both teams had not much luck at getting to any available rebounds. Most crosses and cornerkicks were cleared without much difficulty. Inferno's Melanie Booth crosses the ball into the Raven box many times but there was always a defender there to clear it.

Holly Lincoln's goal was a second chance as she'd had the ball in almost the same place nine minutes earlier but the shot was just wide left of the post. Anne Ogundele earned the shutout preventing some potential shots by not being afraid to run out of her box to clear through balls.

Inferno's new signing Sandi Potis was solid on defense improving the backline. One fan proclaimed "She's like Diana (Matheson) only bigger". Right, they do have the same haircut. Diana Matheson should be with the visiting Ottawa Fury for their game against the Inferno tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York. Fury are 5-0 on the year (6-0 if they beat Sudbury Canadians this afternoon) but I no longer predict a Fury double digit victory.

I didn't notice a team bus for the visitors. I noticed Ravens players getting into personal cars driven by relatives for the long drive back to Rochester.

Spoke to Mel already ... seems like they (the inferno) played much better today!

And yeah, I remember when the Ravens visited last year ... and they came in a couple of vans.

couldn't go out to the game tonight, but looking forward to going to tomorrow's game.

Good game, it should have been about 4 goals, but its a win, and a solid one at that... I hope for the best tomorrow... i'd say 4-1 Ottawa...

Actually, Rochester was going via personal cars to Sudbury right after the game, so they should be just a little tired on sunday against the Canadians..

Lets hope the Canadians will kick ther a$$..btw the Canadians are still working towards having a Canadian Cup for the women. they can't say anything about it yet since the major sponsors is ont locked up yet. They also will have a meeting in Sept. and discuss if a mens side should be put into the PDL. They really have a great managment.

I wish they could manage to get their game report to the league and/or their website right after the game has finished.

They of course are not the only club to make everyone wait. The managemanet of all soccer teams should ensure game results should be their number one priority if they want credibility with the media and their fans.
