Guest Jeffery S.
Spain wins 1-0 on a Valeron goal the second he stepped on the field 2nd half. Spain definitely the superior side, but Russia countered well and got a few chances on Casillas. Liked Spain playing with two wide wings, a classic striker and a classic 10 (Vicente-Morientes-Exteberria backed by Raul), but by m. 25 no midfield, ball kept going over their heads once they tired. The real error is playing with both Abelda and Baraja, neither great technicians like Valeron, or Alonso or Xavi. But at least Spain has depth, at least two strong players per position. Spain wins a first game in a big tournament for the first time in decades. But for sure for the final group game vs. Portugal there will be a real fight.
