Stephen Ademolu on trial in Sweden

Swedish premier division side Trelleborgs FF today revealed that the Canadian forward Stephen Ademolu will have a try-out with the team. Trelleborg, who's done pretty well so far for a newcomer (2-4-3, presently at #9 in the 14 team premier division), has been in the market for a striker for a while. 7 goals in 9 matches is not enough.

Ademolu, whom I don't know anything about except that he's supposed to be fast and to have played for Canada's olympic team, will probably join the reserves in a match tomorrow night.

There's been so many posts recently I almost missed this. He did play for Canada in the Olympic qualifiers, being a late addition to the squad. He was playing in the US college system prior to that. So he's a young lad.

If he sticks there, we'll surely have an un-precedented number of strikers playing at a decent level outside of Canada.

Trelleborg's head coach says to a local newspaper that Ademolu looked really good and they want him to stay for another two weeks training with the club. Stephen Ademolu himself was satisfied with his performance, the more since he hasn't played a match for a month and had to play on the right in Trelleborg's 4-3-3. I gather both the position and the system is new to him.

This message is for Dandal or anyone else with contacts in Sweden. Two more promising Canadian ex-team mates of Ademolu are touring Germany with their club in July. Does anyone know of a Swedish scout representing the Swedish premier clubs who may be interested in scouting these players?

Why don't you just go to the Swedish league site www.svenskfotboll.se go to the club websites, and e-mail the technical staff? Sweden seems to be more relaxed and down home than the big leagues.

Another way to go about things is to go to the FIFA site and look for the official Fifa agents list. There are quite a few Swedes on it, and you could mail them, always likely looking for potential clients.

Very few (if any) swedish clubs have scouts employed in the way EPL clubs have. They rely a lot on networks of e.g. old players. And on player agents. Both Atiba and Stephen Ademolu were introduced to swedish teams by the Barry McLain/Patrik Mörk firm.

The market today is pretty much on the clubs' conditions. Usually the agent have to pay the trip to Sweden for a trial. The clubs are very reluctant to travel to look at someone, unless they already know it's worth the trip. And not always even then. Landskrona never had anyone in Lissabon, but signed Aguiar on his cv only. And probably a few video tapes.

So, I think Jeffrey's second advice is the way to go.
