littleD
Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today named his 18-player roster for the upcoming World Cup Qualifying series against Belize in Kingston, Ontario on Sunday, June 13th at 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 16th at 7:30 p.m. The team recently earned an impressive 3-1 victory in an exhibition game against the San Jose Earthquakes at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, California on Saturday, June 5. The game was aborted after 75 minutes of play due to a power outage. Added to the roster is Mark Watson who missed the San Jose game to play for the Charleston Battery. Watson rejoined the team in Ottawa today. Patrice Bernier will join the team on Thursday after playing in a cup game for Moss FK in Norway. “We’ve had two weeks of good preparation,” said Yallop. “It’s good to have the roster set for the upcoming qualifiers. The whole squad is very much looking forward to playing our first game at home in quite some time.” The team will practice in Ottawa before heading to Kingston on Friday, June 11th. Gian-Luca
Interesting choice with Patrice Bernier. I wonder if he was called for cover on the right side of midfield with Hume having picked up a minor knee injury against San Jose. He's in mid-season form, which will be a plus. jonovision
Average age (well, not exactly a true average as I only calculated using the integer value of the player's ages, not factoring day/month, etc.): 26.
Grasshopper
I'm thinking that they've got Mark Watson's goal total a little bit off, unless they're counting that column as shutouts for him. I'm almost certain that I can picture two goals that he's scored for Canada. Vs. Australia in '93 and T&T in the Gold Cup in 2000 (but I'm getting old and I could be wrong.) I'm not sure if he'll play or not, but as far as I'm concerned the Toronto Lynx could line up as Canada and I'd be pleased as pie just to see Canada playing on Canadian soil again. Can't wait for Sunday. Blair quote:Originally posted by littleD Added to the roster is Mark Watson who missed the San Jose game to play for the Charleston Battery. Canadienfan
Can't help but wish Tony Menezes was there too!
David C.
Considering that Bernier was called-up for the Wales and San Jose games (but not released by his club), it appears that Yallop had his squad figured out a long time ago.

This is a very impressive lineup; hopefully the friendlies and time together would work out for the team.
mattbin
Other than Aguiar and Menezes, it's hard to think of how to make this roster any better. Let's hope we're at the top of our game. Go Canada! Allez les Rouges, M@
