not worth starting another thread but the Inferno lost again. Yuck 0-4

I didn't know Esther Shiner was playable right now because of the field turf they were laying down. The CPSL North York Astros are going to have their home opener on Tuesday but all their home games this year are at The Soccer Centre.

TORONTO INFERNO SOCCER CLUB NEWS RELEASE

Date: Tuesday, June 8, 2004

INFERNO SEEING DOUBLE OVER WEEKEND

The final scores of the Toronto Inferno’s two matches this past weekend were both 3-1. Unfortunately for the Inferno, they found themselves on the losing end of each.

On Saturday, Toronto visited Wayne, New Jersey to play the New Jersey Lady Stallions.

Despite the Lady Stallions coming hard at the Inferno in the first ten minutes, Toronto held off the attack and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Heather Gallacher in the 14th minute.

The Inferno held that lead until the 50th minute when Lissette Brandao counted her first of two goals on the evening. Sarah Dwyer scored the eventual winning goal in the 72nd minute and Brandao added an insurance marker eight minutes later.

”Basically, three mental mistakes led to those opportunities,” said a frustrated Inferno head coach Tom McManus.

In their second game in 24 hours, the Inferno met a vastly improved Rochester Ravens squad which features a number of new players under first-year head coach Rene Tadal.

From July 23, 2000 until May 30, 2004, when Rochester defeated the South Jersey Banshees 3-2, the Ravens had a record of 0-44-1. However, those off-season changes seem to have made a difference as the Ravens now have two wins and a loss to show for the 2004 campaign.

Nina Scalzo scored on a full breakaway, partial breakaway and off an Inferno defender to record a hat trick and lead the well-rested Ravens to the 3-1 victory.

With the setback, Toronto drops their record to no wins against four losses.

”The Ravens hadn’t played the day before and took full advantage of a light weekend schedule,” remarked McManus.

“However, we had lots of our own scoring chances, including four breakaways, but their goalkeeper (Anna-Lesa Calvert) stood on her head,” added McManus.

“She was simply brilliant in the first half.”

Naomi Eguchi scored Toronto’s lone goal as she received a nice through ball from midfielder Kate Bazos and beat Calvert to her left in the 36th minute, tying the match at 1-1.

The Inferno will look to record that elusive first victory in their next game as they host the

Long Island Lady Riders on Sunday, June 13 at North York’s Esther Shiner Stadium.

Kickoff time is 2 p.m.
