CanadasBest
I remember on the english broadcast when McKenna handballed in the box to cause the San Jose penalty shot that McKenna was yelling at his own players and such. The broadcasters sounded quite shocked.
Gian-Luca
But McKenna's always yelling out on the field. Doubt it's anything to worry about. All reports indicate that it was a bogus call, which probably frustrated him. Still, one hopes it is something that Yallop can curb.
Cheeta
Maybe a case of mistaken identity. I'm guessing it was probably directed at the ref.(of course Diesel was playing fullback,,,). If not I'm not too concearned about it because a) Nobody likes to be treated like a child but Geez, sometimes these lads of ours need a good wake up call. Tear 'em a new one, Kev. Shows McKenna was taking the match seriously. He wants that center half possition beside JDV. If you'd missed the Wales match because of Watson's presence you'd be cranky too. and lastly, c) When your last line players are having to gallop across the penalty area to make sliding tackles somebody else has either missed a call or lost their man, badly. I think that's worth a shouting. Don't want that happening in the next round.
Guest Dave
It was right after the penalty. It may have just been McKenna yelling at some of the guys on the team "come on boys let's step it up" or somesuch. DeVos "intervening" may have just been telling McKenna "don't worry about it, just get back in position". The worst-case possibility would be if someone (Stalteri perhaps?) yelled something at McKenna after the handball ("nice play, Dufus!") and McKenna responded in kind. Even if that was the case, it was likely a "heat of the moment" thing, and I would expect that Frank (unlike Holger) would make sure it was sorted out between the players later on. SeanKeay
People get pissed playing sports, nothing big....its competitive spirit, and if they dont have that then well there not gonna be pro athletes. Its not like we have primadonnas like Henry on our squad. EVERYTHING will be ok. If not, lets get Dr Phil to help
Guest Georgio
This is why we need Aguiar ... he'll grab your throat or call you an "@sshole" in practice, in public or in the locker room (if you have been one and we all have) but he'll fight WITH and FOR YOU and the TEAM in the game and that fire will help you win a title. (ie. CONCACAF Champs) Never caused any major dissention for Benfica that would result in ultimate failure, quite the opposite in fact. The coach should be able to deal with that too other then being afraid to give Aguiar a chance in a real game. And Wales was a great opportunity for that. I've played on excellent teams that have won National medals and Provincial Titles (albeit amateur but I beleive it still applies) and this over the top show of anger between players has happened on every winning team I've played on. Actually, on a University squad I played with every one got along so good and we were so nice to each other that we managed to come last in our conference. OK, ok ... i know ... enough about Aguiar or me for that matter. It's just so unfortunate and Yallop should call him to clear the air and then Aguiar and Watson should meet up somewhere and beat the piss out of each other for a couple hours. I'm inclined to say they would actually buy each other a drink afterwards just for their efforts and would show each other a little more respect in the future. There is no doubt what extremes Watson and Aguiar will go to for there teams, although I believe Aguiar can do it better, we just need a coach who will lead such competitive battle hungry players into the games ahead. Yallop, I know you can do it .... give Aguiar a call. You guys obviously haven't had a real conversation yourselves because Aguiar doesn't appear to know what your thinking by not calling him for the Wales match. The Flames lost tonight.
