Guest Jeffery S.
quote:Originally posted by Sigma Good result by Malawi at home against Morocco. I was really hoping that Malawi would be able to get a win today, but I will take the tie. I see Peter Mponda, ex-Wizards, is still playing for the Malawi national team, has a club in the country. Who was the other Malawi player who I think was playing for Wizards?

Joe Concacaf
Angola is another Portugese speaking country on the rise... "In Algeria, Angola displayed a brand of football similar to Brazilian sides of the 1980s and they were able to hold the 2004 Nations Cup quarter-finalists for the best part of the game." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/3781607.stm

Joe Concacaf
Just noticed a mistake in the results posted from june 5. Burkina Faso beat Ghana 1-0, it wasn't 0-0. I was reading the africa WCQ preview on planetworldcup.com, and read something interesting. Gabon is managed by Brazilian legend Jairzinho. Joe Concacaf
wow, none of the top teams in Africa won. Ivory Coast are the only team in Africa with 6 points after 2 games, and they play in Cameroon next.

Especially Cote d'Ivoire beating Egypt in Alexandria. I'd also consider Zimbabwe drawing with Algeria a considerable surprise.
Guest Jeffery S.
Wonderful results and a great testimony to African soccer. It really looks like a region with no minnows anymore. If the traditional powers can't go through I'd take an African side in a hypothetical group with us in Germany, as in spite of beating tough competition they'll be inexperienced and ripe for an upset. The current regime that changed Zaire's name to Congo caused the deaths of thousands of people in order to gain power, yet my referring to them as Zaire is disrespectful?
