Gian-Luca Posted June 5, 2004 Author Share Posted June 5, 2004 Just found a webcast of the match but it is in the post-game show, don't know the final score but they mentioned Rochester won, Toronto started 7 defenders & didn't score, with Ali not coming on the field until late in the match. Having split their first two meetings, both teams were primed for a physical affair. The Raging Rhinos came out the aggressor with the Lynx sitting back using a 4-4-1-1 formation to absorb the initial pressure. Veteran striker, Doug Miller appeared to give the Rhinos the lead in the 27th minute but some excellent build up was for not as Miller was ruled offside. The Lynx would not be so lucky a minute later when Chris Carrieri put the Rhinos in front with an unbelievable bicycle kick off a bouncing ball in the Lynx penalty area. The Lynx clamped down defensively for the rest of the half, entering the break trailing 1-0. Veteran Adrian Serioux returned from his one game suspension and was outstanding for the Lynx playing in a holding midfield role. John Barry Nusum was equally impressive providing tireless work as the lone striker in the first half. The Lynx opened the second half switching to a 3-5-2 formation to generate some offense. The move worked well as the Lynx applied their best pressure of the night but were unable to solve former Lynx 'keeper, Theo Zagar. Substitute Corey Woolfolk put the Rhinos up two goals in the 61st minute when a Chris Carrieri shot was stopped by Lynx 'keeper, Bryheem Hancock. The rebound fell to Wolfolk who banged home his third goal in the last three matches tying him for the A-League lead with 6 goals this season. The Lynx threatened to close the gap when midfielder Rumba Munthali split the Rochester defense only to be denied by a last second tackle. Toronto was unlucky again minutes later when midfielder Darren Baxter's chip from 25 yards beat Zagar before striking the bottom of the crossbar. The match would finish 2-0 in favour of the Raging Rhinos. Lynx Head Coach Duncan Wilde was pleased with his team's effort. "It was a much better performance than our first match in Rochester [a 4-0 loss]," said Wilde. "We are still having more of the ball but are not creating enough scoring chances. Our focus now has to be the next three home games and building some momentum for the second half of the season". The Lynx return to the friendly confines of Centennial Park Stadium this Sunday, June 6th when the expansion Puerto Rico Islanders make their first ever visit to Canada for the Lynx annual Fiesta Latina celebration with a 6:00pm kickoff.
