Where to watch Canada vs Belize - in your city!

Hey moderators, how about converting this into a generic thread for those of us not in the QC-Windsor Corridor fortunate enough to be close to Kingston?

I for one would like to know where some Canuck fans will or should be watching in Edmonton. The usual Portuguese dives on 95 Street I go to

may not be watching out of principle due to FA's exclusion and will probably just have Euro "encores".

The Belize matches are both supposed to be broadcast by Sportsnet... so basically any bar that'll have us will do. Anyone Edmonton Voyageurs interested in getting together? DoyleG? Reza? James?

Apologies to Ted for highjacking the post...

"Cliff Clayvin's": are they soccer-friendly and do they open Sundays?

The Trappers have a home game that afternoon, will that area be too crowded?

Might also be a good idea to get a place that shows France-England at 12:30 mountain.

Nevah hoid of da place, but am open to anything.

Since I can do no wrong, I editted the name of this thread to "Where to watch Canada vs. Belize - in your city!". Hopefully we'll be able to come up with some "official locations" across the country for Voyageurs to meet and watch the game.

Let's get some votes going and then I'll post it on the front page of the site (and a sticky in the forum) so that we'll get as many people together as possible.

Since the game is on Sportsnet, any bar should be fine. I've had success with the Elephant & Castle on Whyte. They even set up one tv at the back for me during Gold Cup 2002 v. Haiti - even with the Oilers playing that night (short story shorter.. the original plan was to meet at Sherlock Holmes, but their satelite was messed up so it was every man for themselves. I ended up watching the game amidst Oilers fans with a guy from Malowi. He asked me why no one else was interested in our MNT... I just shook my head and sighed.)

Anyway.. Elephant and Castle might be good... except the Euro game between England/France will be ending just before the match. That may mean seating will be at a premium... but it also might mean an opportunity to show the Euro-snobs that there's support for our own team too...

Edmonton Voyageurs have also made a mad dash out of Overtime during a Gold Cup match with Martinique. They were closing for a private function so Reza, James, myself and a couple of others had to come up with an alternate viewing area really quick. Overtime was really nice while it lasted though.

And in Winnipeg ?

How about the Soccer Spectrum ?

Carnagie's open Sundays during the summer?

Got a nice horking TV:)

P.S. Yeah, probably a good idea to start marking territory. Find a pub with a soft spot for long suffering, non-travelling Canada supports and plant down some roots. Think all the WCQ matchs will be available on regular cable from here on in.

no one intersted in "official" gathering points?

Okay, taking strobe_z's cue, I think we should go, subject to further ideas, with Overtime, unless we come to another consensus. The reason: it is big, has 19 large televisions and is centrally located. There are usually some homesick limeys watching their own footy there, so if there are those sorts wanting to watch a replay of France-England or the other Euro match, the bar can accomodate them. It doesn't have the dark wood feel of an English Pub like Elephant and Castle (and I like Whyte Ave) , but E & C is quite small and could be really packed that day with restricted tv's and seating.

I just phoned the Assistant Manager at Overtime, and he said there is nothing special booked for this Sunday. They open Sunday's at 11:00. He also took a "reservation" for us (up to 30 people), and will set aside an area on the right upper side for us for the 12:30-5:00 times so we can come in early to watch the Eng/Fr match that starts at 12;30 Mountain (I assured him that we were the "Voyageurs", not the "Voyeurs"). The Belize match starts at 3:00 MDT. I think I'm going to be there for 12:30 so that I don't miss the end of the England/Fr match and the start of the Canada match.

Overtime is centrally located, to the close West and North of the downtown core, about half a block south from the Tim Horton's across from Grant McEwen Main Campus, 10304 - 111 Street. Nice huge parking lot usually empty on a Sunday too.

I know Reza likes that Pub out in St. Albert, but that's a bit far for many of us.

What do you guys think? I really don't care where, just thought I'd get the ball rolling.

As I explained over on "Mustang's Alley", the 'Stangs vs. Impact K.O. is one hour before the Canada vs. Belize K.O.. And since most of the Calgary Voyageurs are 'Stangs fans too we'll more than likely be taping it:(

However if you can't make it to McMahon, "Limericks" is a good spot to watch the game:)

Re: EDMONTON

Well, below is a post from James on the old forum in response to mine. I assume he is the same James you refer to, stobe_z. I have no objections to the Victory, so do you want to switch there, guys? :?:

"Downtown

by James

I'll be at the Victory Lounge. 10030 102 Street. You'll find thier ad in the Aviators Program. I'm planning on hitting them for as many euro games as I can too. It's a fantastic looking pub, with a huge projection screen and a bunch of smaller televisions throughout the place. very soccer oriented, the walls are covered with banners, scarves and kits from clubs all around the world. The Victory Lounge(As well as the Starlite Room-which is connected) is owned by a few guys on my soccer team. Saturday is going to be thier first day. Just in time for euro....

There's a big parking lot next to the club. Parking on the weekend isn't that tough anyway."

1 vote for Victory Lounge.

I've haven't seen it but I'm basing this on James' description, sounds great for soccer. Overtime is nice, but a bit upperclass for the likes of me. You don't always get a good view of the TV's there, either (with pillars and wierd angles). There's usually hot girls though, but again too upperclass for the likes of me.
