US vs Honduras (R)

Canuck in Boston

Recommended Posts

US looked very strong last night. As much as I hate to admit it, I believe they are the class of our region. Second to noone, even Mexico. The Honduras team may have been weak, but man they were serverely out played. The US squad was very fast and talented on the ball.

I know this is not news to anyone but every non-MLS player is on a Prem club(mainly England and Germany, one French club)......I guess I just never really thought about it. That is a very impressive and deep player pool. It is amazing how every country in our region has progressed at a far superior rate than Canada. The US is just one example. Amazing what they have done in 15 years. I give them credit.

Even though we have many promising young players with clubs in Europe, I don't see Canada getting to their level in the next 10 years.

Players and subs from last night

13-Tim Howard--->Man UTD(Prem.);

6- Steve Cherundolo--->Hannover 96(Prem),

22-Tony Sanneh--->FC Nurnberg(Prem),

4-Carlos Bocanegra--->Fulham(Prem)(12-Cory Gibbs--->FC St. Pauli(Regional), 72),

3-Greg Vanney--->FC Bastia(Prem)(15-Bobby Convey--->MLS, 46);

10-Claudio Reyna--->Man City(Prem),

14-Chris Armas--->MLS (25-Pablo Mastroeni--->MLS, 46),

21-Landon Donovan--->MLS (soon to be Bayer Leverkusen???),

17-DaMarcus Beasley--->MLS(soon to be in a Prem League in Europe???)(7-Eddie Lewis--->Preston North End(Div.1), 46);

20-Brian McBride--->Fulham(Prem),

9-Conor Casey--->Borussia Dortmund(Prem)(8-Earnie Stewart--->MLS, 63).

Subs not used: 24-Jonny Walker.

Then add these names

Clint Mathis--->Hannover 96(Prem)

Kasey Keller--->Tottenham(Prem)

Brad Friedel--->Blackburn(Prem)

John O'Brien--->Ajax(Prem)

Plus others....

Well as SABuffalo786 pointed out, Sanneh has been released by Nurnberg who have just been promoted to Bundesliga 1. Casey belongs to Dortmund but played all season with 1. FC Karlsruhe (Bundesliga 2) and is en route to Mainz for next season. Also, Gibbs is playing at a lower level (Regional League North).

Not to take away from the fact that the USA is a strong CONCACAF team, just correcting that initial assumption about all being in Div 1.

Isn't Gibbs with the Dallas Burn now?

You're right. But St. Pauli is 3rd div in Germany.

I stand corrected(didn't really research enough), but it is still a pretty impressive list when you break it down.

My initial premise was that they could field a team entirely of div1 players(present and former) and I still think that could be the case.

When you watch Beasley in person he looks even better. That guy will soon be in a top league soon.
