Nice One by Some Montreal Ultras

I believe she mentioned elsewhere that she stayed away from the Toronto Ultras to avoid what happened in Montreal.

Love this quote though:

quote:Very bright day, so I got some nice pictures. But I have to admit, the Toronto dance team and pep squad were driving me MAD! If I was suddenly transferred to Toronto and had to go to Lynx games to get my A-League fix, I'm not sure I could put up with it on a constant basis. It was like the worst memories of high school football games. I'm not trying to be critical of the Lynx setup in general. It's a nice (though small) stadium, and getting my press pass went off without a hitch, and overall it was an entertaining game. But the pep squad and dance team really have to go, in my opinion. I would think there are many soccer fans who simply will not put up with it. As I said, I'm not sure I could.

Gee, I didn't realize we looked so threatening! ;)

Look at this pic and tell me you wouldn't be afraid:

I mean, if you put a thought bubble on that pic, would it look out of place to see: "I'll eat your brains". Ah, that Max pic is classic

of course that is an old pic. its from the good oole varsity stade days, plus i had my old blue argo horn (RIP):(

getting back to the Montreal Ultras. i have to admit, they are NOT a welcoming bunch at all, except for the ones that i have approached in the past, whoever they were??? i also, rec'd some wierd attitude from a prominent member, i won't go into detail....STAAAAADDDDDEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

all i know is, the Toronto Ultras have always been approachable from our best of times to our worst of times. too bad this person didn't attempt to venture into this domain.

What happened to the good old days of the Ultras? It seems like somewhere between the move from Varsity to Centennial, then to York, then back to Centennial something has gone missing. I haven't seen Max in ages, nor have I seen about 9 of the other individuals in this photo at Centennial. What happened to the Spanish Frank? Where is JT and the big drum? Mirza is now in France and the Ultras seemed to have turned into the official representatives of the Che Communist movement in Toronto. It seems that For every individual we gain during the season, we lose the next. So the net gain is really none.

So sad.

That's unfortunate. I hope it was a matter of laying low shortly after a bad experience rather than making an unfair assumption about the Toronto Ultras based on what happened in Montreal. Otherwise I've really enjoyed Allison's reports and travelogue.

I have no idea for sure the reason why she stayed away, I assume it was because if the Montreal "Ultras" behaved in such a manner, there was no telling what the Toronto "Ultras" would do.

Lets just say that the Montreal Ultras made a$$es out of themselves. Judging by the follow up posts on the Montreal Ultras boards, they are pretty proud of themselves. However they haven't made big names out of themselves, all they have done is make other supporters realize what big pu$$ies they are. Attacking a single woman doesn't make you tough, it make you sissies!

Very sad story indeed. Coming from Montreal myself, I still can't beleive that Impact supporters would do such a thing. I found out what happened only Saturday when we got to Toronto since we don't site in the Ultras' section and were not aware of the incidents.

Guys, this is indeed disgusting and deplorable. The Montreal fan who committed this act should be denounced to the police immediately and banned from the supporters club of Montreal. If you don't, this type of incident will repeat itself again and again. I remember during the old days of the H-Block Blizzard supporters club at Varsity Stadium (during the 80's) we used to attract $hit disturbers of this nature. They were mainly SKINHEADS. The minute those f.ucking scum bags coming into the scene, they do more damage than good. Get rid of them, that's my answer to Daniel and François.

Just to point out that I left the Ultras Montreal 2 years ago to start with BXL Boy (Matthias) impactsoccer.com - We have no ties with the Ultras. We do try to work on away game travels with them but we are no longer part of the group. Daniel is away to Europe and wasn't at the game.

I have to say, I'm a little surprised. I sat with the Ultras the day of the first Voyageurs Cup presentation, and they were awesome-cool. A lot of them I knew from here, but everyone was friendly. In fact I gave up my reserved seating ticket to sit with them, and certainly didn't regret it -- I enjoyed myself very much.

Maybe things have changed since then. Disappointing.

Allez les Rouges,

M@

I wouldnt exactly say it was a numbers issue, or a location thing, it seems to be more of an attitude thing. At the end of last season that did seem to come back.. last year was rough, but everything seems to come around :). As for Frank Espanol, Ill tell you that story on Sunday, Im surprised you dont remember ;).

BTW, Max was in Rochester this year, he seems to be a road trip only Ultra :)

Still, anyone else of the Toronto Ultras kinda bothered that the actions of those few idiots in Montreal has made someone wary of us?

I commented on my Travelogue that I had said all I had to say about this, but the issue won't seem to go away. But I did want to clarify about what I did in Toronto, because I didn't want it to be seen as me having any problem with the Toronto Ultras.

In Montreal, I had been invited to join the Ultras before I had even left Portland. Then, before the match, waiting outside the gate, I had been approached and invited by two others that sit in that section. So early in the 2nd half I joined them, was cheering along, talking to the fans, having a great time, when a few people decided I was an easy target, and of course that part is what I documented in my Travelogue. One part that I did not mention in my writings is that I DID identify myself as a writer for a-league.com (and even told the person who approached me I was one of the two people who actually maintained the site), so any accusations that I didn't identify myself clearly enough are wrong.

In Toronto, as far as I know, I had not been invited by any of the Ultras to come say hi (If I missed an invitation, I apologize. I tried to be thorough and make sure I said hi to everyone who wanted to). Now on a normal day I would have done it anyway, but this wasn't a normal day. The only person from Toronto who had written me was the a-league.com reporter, but I don't know who he was or where he would be, and I had made it clear that if anybody wanted to say hi they could, since it probably wouldn't be difficult to identify me, walking around the track taking pictures in the first half, with my now-famous green and white Timbers scarf. :)

So, at halftime I got myself something to eat, and sat down in the bleachers and took in the rest of the game. So to make it clear, no, I wasn't leery of the Toronto Ultras, I had no fear that what happened in Montreal was going to happen here. I just didn't know anybody over there, and hadn't talked to any of them before the game, so I just didn't feel it was appropriate to go over there and assume I'd be welcomed with open arms. I have had various degrees of reception in various A-League cities, so on this day, I just decided to sit down and enjoy the game, and if anybody picked me out and wanted to say hi, that was fine.

But otherwise I just sat back, tried to ignore the dance team and pep squad as much as is humanly possible, and watched the match.

But please don't think my desire to just take it easy and keep to myself was an indication that I was afraid the Toronto Ultras were capable of doing what happened in Montreal, because that is definitely not the case.

Too bad that I couldn't make it to the game, I exchanged e-mails with you on several occasions so it would have been a pleasure to meet and to talk to you. That obviously did not happen as I had some other engagements to attend to.

Hopefully you'll come to Toronto again :)

Allison, I hope nobody is suggesting you did anything wrong, or that you should have done anything different, or that there were any circumstances where the action of those "fans" might be justified. Whether or not you indentified yourself is irrelevant. It shouldn't have happened. Pure and simple. Hopefully the Ultras in Montreal will decide that they need to do a better job of policing themselves. That sort of behaviour is not tolerable.
