strobe_z
- The Announcer says "The Aviators would like to thank all of you for your support of S-ockey.. urm... Soccer." - You miss large portions of the play because the guys on scooters swing by to throw little foamy soccer balls into the crowd, and you're instantly mobbed by a thousand screaming little kids. - The Official Game Program says "The Aviators began the season with a 0-0 draw, holding a stacked Vancouver Whitecaps off the scoresheet. And Jaime Lopresti's last-gasp marker earned the Drillers a 1-1 tie in Seattle." ...some thoughts and observations on the Edmonton Aviators home-opener. François
You know you're watching Soccer in Canada when...in Saturday's game in Toronto, the Impact were listed as the Rochester Raging Rhinos in the game programme...
Alberto7
You know you're watching Soccer in Canada when... the coach of the Toronto Lynx misspells the names of two of his players on the official lineup card-Gerba was listed as Gerber and Nusum was listed as Nusem (Toronto @ Montreal Friday May 28). Of course the announcer at Claude Robillard pronounced Gerba's name as Gerber two times!

L.T.
On Saturday, the Lynx covered all the bases by listing 'Ali Gerber Gerba' on the gamesheet. As well Bartholomeu (#7) was listed as #17.

Alberto7
quote:As well Bartholomeu (#7) was listed as #17. Actually, Bartolomeu wore # 17 in Friday's game as well. His jersey had no name on the back. Does this mean that Baxter is no longer with the Lynx? Seems to me that the Lynx are doing a lot of juggling of uniform numbers(Pavic wore # 12. Wasn't that Bartolomeu's number at some point?). Can any Lynx fans shed some light?

Baxter was in the stands right in front of us, not dressed for the Impact home game with Shawn Faria, Adrian Serioux and likely 3rd keeper Brian Rowland, presumably hurt. I can't see why the club would let him go, cause he has been fantastic for us. Pavic was wearing 21 btw Likely an equipment mixup or something. Free kick
Yeah I noticed that one about the program listing the Rochester Raging Rhinos as the Lynx opponents on Saturday. You might also say that: " you know your watching a soccer game in Canada when the Loudest cheers occers when there is a give away for Tim Hortons doughnuts"

Funny that Pavic was wearing 21 on Saturday after wearing 12 on Friday. No I'm not dyslexic, I have the official line up card and I remember when he was introduced doing a double take because I thought Bartolomeu was # 12. I suppose I can't expect perfection from A-league teams, so I'll just stop right now. BTW, Bartolomeu and Gerba were easily the best Lynx players on the night. Properly run A-League teams have no problems such as being mentioned in this thread.
DJT
quote:Originally posted by L.T. On Saturday, the Lynx covered all the bases by listing 'Ali Gerber Gerba' on the gamesheet. Ali Ngon - "en-gone" Ngon - "en-goon" (Montreal radio commentators) Ngon - silent "N", rest rhymes with "good" (Rochester radio commentators) Gerba Gerber I also seem to recall someone, possibly on FSW, doing something different with the "Ng" Plus various combinations of the above He's known by more names than MC2. beachesl
...the doggy races in the half-time show draw more applause than the soccer. (Last night, Commonwealth, both half-times, the substututes had to be careful they didn't bean the doggies encroaching on the penalty box they were practicing in.)
