IMPACT SWEEP LYNX IN WEEKEND SERIES

MONTREAL REMAIN UNBEATEN IN A-LEAGUE PLAY

Date: Saturday, May 29, 2004

Venue: Centennial Park Stadium

Attendance: 1,826

Kick off Time: 6:00 PM

Final Score: Montreal 2 Toronto 0

Match Summary: The Toronto Lynx returned to the friendly confines of Centennial Park Stadium to complete the back end of a home and home series with the unbeaten Montreal Impact. After falling to Montreal 4-1 on Friday night the team kicked off the Annual Girl Power pregame festivities with a mini-game featuring the under-8 girls from the Oakville Renegades and the Ajax Aeros/Shooting Stars. Other participants in the pregame included the Etobicoke Spectrum Baton Club, a special presentation to Laura Dixon, Jennifer Courneyea, and Tina Foreman of the OCAA Champion Durham College Lords, and our very own talented Lynx Dance Team. Despite 1,826 enthusiastic fans the Impact dominated play in the early going and 14 minutes in Mauro Biello found Freddy Commodore streaking down the right side of the box and he beat 'keeper Bryheem Hancock far side for the first goal of the match, 1-0 Montreal. The Lynx's best chance of the half came in the 38th minute when Jamie Dodds dropped a ball for John Barry Nusum and he unleashed a rocket headed just under the crossbar but 'keeper Greg Sutton extended the arms and punched the ball over the net. The Impact added to their lead in the 43rd minute when Leduc sent a lead pass between two Toronto defenders onto the foot of Freddy Commodore who chipped a shot just over Hancock and into the far right corner for a commanding 2-nil halftime lead. In search of some offence Head Coach Duncan Wilde made several substitutions in the 2nd half but the Impact defence remained steady while controlling the play in the midfield area. The Lynx could not generate a legitimate scoring chance in the second and fall to the Impact, 2-nil the final. With the loss the Lynx drop to 2-5-0 on the season. The Lynx are in action again on Sunday June 6 at 6:00pm against the Puerto Rico Islanders for Fiesta Latina Night at Centennial Park Stadium.

The Impact game report says Commodore was born in Ghana, but does not state his citizenship.

Nice to see the Impact have signed Andrew Haineault. Should be good experience for him. Too bad for Fronimidas, however, as he id out for the year with a knee injury.

A pretty awful game for the Lynx. Very little cohesion out there, with most of the best talent sitting a row in front of the Toronto Ultras in the stands or starting on the bench. Only the play of Edgar Bartolomeu & Ali Gerba gave any cause for excitement for Lynx fans. It's like we had nobody in the middle of the field today with Baxter out through injury.

It was at least nice to meet a couple more Voyageurs from Montreal in Christian B. & Francois to put a couple more faces to a couple more names on this board.

Result of the A-League game of Saturday May 29th, 2004 between Toronto Lynx and Montreal Impact played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 6:00pm.

14 min...Impact Freddy Commodore GOAL...Impact Mauro Biello on quick break out passes from middle 35 yards and finds Commodore on right and from 12 yards he shoots and into left side of net rather than try well defended centering pass although goalie Bryheem Hancock had to feel the pressure of a possible cross.

43 min...Impact Freddy Commodore GOAL...Commodore gets ball on left on rush and sends in 20 yard banana curled shot that curls around goalie and inside right side of net.

Final Score:........Toronto Lynx.........0............Montreal Impact...........2.........

Attendance was 1826 on this warm early evening with a bright sun coming in from the north-east that made the scoreboard too difficult to see.

Freddy Commodore took advantage of receiving through passes past the last line of Lynx defenders. He was substituted early in the 2nd half after receiving a knock one minute after scoring his second goal. Greg Sutton earned the shutout and made it look easy. He leapt up and caught any cross into the box before a Lynx player could play it. He's earned a shutout in every game he's played this year except for a fluke goal in their match against the Lynx in Montreal last night which ended 4-1 for the Impact.

Halftime Lynx sub Edgar Bartolomeu had some good runs on the left wing but his centering crosses were either caught by Sutton or knocked away by defenders. Lynx forwards John Barry Nusum and Ali Gerba didn't have enough room to operate and rarely got off shots against the Impact defense.

Anyone like me wondering what the Laval Dynamites players are doing this year with the team sitting out the year from the CPSL found midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos coming in as a 2nd half substitute and goalie Gerry Argento listed on the Impact roster.

The Impact roster page reprinted for the media lists Commodore as being a citizen of Ghana. His residence is listed as Silver Springs USA (think that's in Colorado). His previous club was Rochester Raging Rhinos.

I think it's Sivler Spring, Maryland, just on the boundary of the North side of Washington , D.C.

Freddy Commodore. I realise that he is a native of Ghana, but has he been capped by the African nation. If not, I see an excellent opportunity for Canada. Popping 2 goals in one game is pretty amazing.

Oh, not against Toronto it isn't.

Thanks. And I guess we'll have a chance to meet again in Kingston on June 13th. By the way, the field at centennial looks great this year, they seemed to have done a great job. It's much better than last year. They have to stop playing music during games...

Again the Lynx played a decent game. They had the majority of the ball, but in saying that the impact did what they had to do after scoring early. The Lynx defence once again blew it for them. Their left back is way to slow. He has been getting beat all season and needs be replaced. Tyler did well after he was moved there in the second half. After seeing the replay on T.V. what was their center back doing on the second goal. He went into that tackle like a P%&$# and their striker went by him and the rest is history. He recovered well and had a decent game but there is no way that he should be starting. He is inexperienced and should be brought in slowly. We all knew that having the coaches son on the team would not work. Sometimes you need to put friendship aside and play your best players, especially at a professional level. Can I please ask why David Diplacido is not playing, he is our only creative player and when he comes on he plays on the right side. They could of used his experience in this game. As a whole the Lynx are playing well, they were given a tough schedule and should be able to bounce back.

I was very pleased to meet Gian-Luca yesterday. Too bad that we didn't have more time to talk any longer. I hope to see you again soon even if It'll be impossible for me to be in Kingston in June. We very much enjoyed our trip to Toronto.
