with barely 2100 showing up for the home opener, how will they pay their bills.if they average this for the year they will definatly fold.very poor showing support wise in trana.the whitecaps women drew 3200 for their opener.it just goes to show that toronto has a long way to go before they are considered a top tier canadian soccer city.

Dude, I loved your Sesame Street Lynx song today.

The dude makes a good point. 2100 for a home opener against a hated rival team is not too impressive.

I suppose here comes the personal remarks now.

Unlike most 2100 attendance Lynx games, I actually think 2100 people were there.

Not really. The Lynx have been getting that kind of crowd (though it was actual this time, rather than inflated) for a few years now at Centennial and they always survive & come back the next year, so I don't know what would possess someone to state that they "will definitely fold" if they keep averaging over 2000 fans like they always do.

Nah, no remarks here.

2100 seems pretty average for Toronto. Not good, but not bad either. We can't expect much more than this. The crowd was actually pretty animated. Even so, most people in Toronto - soccer "fans" included - don't even know that Rochester is a hated rival, anyway.

Most people sill haven't heard of the Lynx. :(

I would assume that by playing at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium that the Lynx would lose less money than how it was at Varsity. Is this true???

Yes. But they also lose most of what little capacity they had for generating new fans by not being at Varsity (of course, they don't have any choice about that now).

Speaking of the Whitecaps womens season opener, they had a dude giving away free CD's to the crowd that consisted of mostly little girls and their parents. So what was the CD that they gave out?

A collection of beer drinking songs!

hey, lets not forget, last three seasons were nothing to talk about, the lynx are lucky they got any support and to start the season 1-3 and a 4 to nil thrashing by those hated rivals.

i found myself today, not making the extra effort to arrive at the game on time. instead, i arrived 2o minutes into the game, empty handed, in regular clothes as opposed to my regular lynx jersey and cap.

by the way, don't your hated rivals, the flounders, have trouble with their attendances after having soo many strong winning seasons. Last year, they drew only 3300 and the Lynx were right after them with over 2600 (gee, thank goodness for school days and for joyous afternoon matinees [xx(] ).

as much as we shake are heads over the Hartrells antics. you gotta hand it to the guy, he knows his accounting and that is why the team has been afloat for eight seasons.

Yep they do. It also doesn't help that they play many nights when right next door the Mariners are filling up safeco field.

But you're right, Seattle has poor attendance as well.

snake, why are you sooo concerned with the welfare of the T.O.'s soccer scene????

you should rephrase the question to; 'Why doesn't the city of toronto support this terrible soccer team?'

doesn't that sound better because you will get a more logical response, now.

by the way, the Toronto Inferno draw flies here and yes, i have been to a couple of games in the past and were nothing to write about, honestly. no flow to the game whatsoever. i might as well go watch my little niece play soccer, its more fun.

Yes 2100 is less than last year's average attendance but the numbers don't lie either. They are the only team in the A-League last year that can boast a double digit attendance INCREASE (by percentage).

True there was no John Gallagher today...LOL

But let's see what shows up in the paper tomorrow.
