this is somewhat dissapointing but better there then b 4 the WC IMO. It'll be a chance for the more of the non-hex teams ot get some tounry expearience(hopefully Canada won't be involved in the GC this time around haha) But it's never really a good time.....really only the year after the world cp is the only good time to have it w/o too many problems but i think they should still hold the GC regardless.

It coincides with WCQ hex matches? What a joke. Obviously even CONCACAF doesn't take this event seriously. Can you imagine this happening during the European Championships or Copa America? How do you get people to take soccer seriously here when the Federation doesn't even take it seriously.

It will be a good chance for our North American based "B" team to be established. The A-League will be in season, and guys like Dunfield who are out of season can get a call-up as well.

It is a joke that the "Confederation Championship" is played at a time when 6 of the top eight teams can't take it seriously.

Hmmmmm, why have you opened a thread about an article from

Novmber, 2003? Have there been some developments since? Do we know where the venues are now?

I like the part about the qualifiers starting in late 2004[:o)], nothing yet. Wonder if they will give byes to the 12 semi-finalists, at least for the inital round. Probably the 6 teams for the hex get automatic places, the other 4 places will have to qualify and two will go to non-Concacaf teams again[:o)]. What a waste of effort, especially in the middle of the hex.

Unless Canada were to get a venue, it's a waste of time to have it in the summer. It should be held in early January, 2006, when WCQ is over and more of the quality players are available. It would be good preparation for the teams going to Germany. IF we are going to have outside teams (which we shouldn't if it is our confederation's championships), then January would give us an opportunity to get some super national teams from countries that have winter breaks, like Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Nigeria to attend. And please, Groups of 4, not Groups of 3, no sense wasting match dates[}:)].

Sending a B side would be a necessity, not just desirable, if we are in the hex. No dates have been set for the 2005 Youth Cup in Holland, but if we qualify and if it is after the Gold Cup, send our U-20's as preparation. That'll teach those idiots.

End of rant.

I took an old article because I don't remember it being mentioned.

Just asking. I did a search, and you are right, this article wasn't reproduced before[:I].

I guess the discussion must have happened before on a different forum. It seemed like deja vu all over again.

I don't think we should bother to enter the Gold Cup at all under these circumstances, unless we've been eliminated from WCQ by then (which would mean not making the hex.) CONCACAF regulations only require member countries to enter every second Gold Cup so, since we competed in the last one, we can take the next one off (the only other Gold Cup that Canada skipped was in 1998.)

It was mentioned in the past in this forum that the next GC would be played in that same summer ( 2005) . However, I didn't realized it was an old article that you posted. I assumed that this was an announcment to confirm the dates of something similar. None the less, it still provides for good discussion
