Gloucester in FLA
It's so funny that when the LAFFS beat the Sens, everyone came out of the woodwork. Mocking figure skating pictures, golf talk, etc. It isn't any consolation to me, but it makes me think....hadn't Belfour stood on his head against the Sens, half of the Leafs would be in Europe playing in the Worlds, and we would've taken care of the Flyers. All this talk about the great Leafs team all of a sudden ends as soon as they are exposed for what they are: an overachieving bunch of old guys who had a goalie play the series of his life against the Sens. What is the old saying? You live and die bye the sword. Well, time for the eulogy in the obituary pages.....again! 1967 anyone?
SeanKeay
You see the problem is... WE DO HAVE EDDIE... so all you ottawa fans can suck it... Plain and simple, quinn should be fired... you dont sit the 4th overall point leader for wade belak.
amacpher
Leafs Relocate to Bolivia Add Bob Esche (?) to the long-list of Hall of Fame goalies (behind Roman Czechmanek and Arthus Irbe) who were able to shutdown this clan of heartless dinosaurs! Only the Leafs could make teams like the Flyers and Hurricanes appear as though they’re the Real Madrid of the hockey world! In light of this 37th annual event, the team has decided to relocate to La Paz, play in the BHL (Bolivian Hockey League) and be referred to from this day on as "The Weakest". beachesl
Many things may change in this world of ours, but the greatest tradition of post-Centennial Canada, and a point of pride and unity amongst all anti-taranta canucks, is the choking of the Leafs every spring. It's kind of a rough justice that keeps our bowels regular. May it ever be thus.

I think you forgot the add the rest of the article: Despite the relocation, the Leafs have agreed to return to North America every April to perform their annual spring ritual of eliminating the Ottawa Senators from the NHL playoffs. Outgoing Leafs head coach Pat Quinn said in his last press conference as Leafs boss that "you could always tell it was April in Southern Ontario, because the weather was getting a bit warmer, it rains a lot, and we eliminate the Sens from the playoffs. You could set your watch by it."
matthew
One of my best friends is a Sens fan and as soon as it was Leafs/Sens first round he said "they're going to beat the crap out of each other and then lose in the second round." and I replied 'I think the Leafs are going to have the honour of being second round victims" I actually thought the Leafs would beat the Sens easier and I thought the Flyers would beat the Leafs easier than they did. Anyway despite the hype. The Leafs just aren't that good frankly and they weren't very healthy in the playoffs. It wasn't a big surprise. cheers, matthew
Grizzly
I think it is well known that I don't like Quinn but he should be given a medal for getting such a mediocre team so far in the playoffs. The Leafs have four or five excellent players like Belfour and Sundin but the rest of the team is pretty mediocre. He had the team playing with great enthusiasm and getting results throughout the season and the playoffs even if it often didn't look pretty. There were times in both series when the Sens and Flyers turned it up a notch and it looked like their opponent was an AHL team. The Sens should have beat this team in a maximum of five games but with the lack of passion they showed they certainly would not have beat the Flyers either. And neither team was beat up after the Sens-Leafs series because it was not very physical. Quinn may share some blame for the loss due to his often questionable moves when he was GM but he is certainly an excellent although very irritating coach. I also thought the level of play in last night's game (and the others in this series) was far below that of the Calgary-Detroit series.

JayWay
Mediocre, heartless, overachieving? Where were you people with these bold statements before the Leafs got eliminated? Franky
Leafs add a new foreign player to the lineup; Takin Asummerovf, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets see, the next time the Leafs need a player at the trading deadline, they should check the Hockey Hall of Fame. Maybe, they can land some players out of retirement [] or better yet the geriatric ward.
Grizzly
Actually JayWay you should read the posts again. The Leafs were mediocre overachievers but it was the Sens who were heartless. And this was all said by myself and others in the previous threads after the first playoff series and the Martin firing.

Maybe I'm just confused how the Leafs can be heartless dinosaurs, yet underacheivers at the same time :-p I recall the Leafs being labelled as cheap and whiners, but I don't recall everything else. But then again, there was so much, maybe I just lost track of it all.
Grizzly
Well speaking for myself, I don't think the Leafs are heartless, I actually think they played with a lot of heart and spirit in both rounds, far more than the Senators did. That is the main reason that a less talented team that was frequently dominated for long periods of time still managed to score goals when needed and win the series. If the Sens had played with the same heart that the Leafs did they would have easily beat them whether Belfour stood on his head or not. And I don't think any Senators fans should criticize another team for being shut down by a hot goalie as it has happened to the Sens more than any other team and a few of them were also pretty mediocre goalies. Esche was solid but no moreso than Belfour, he didn't steal the series for the Flyers, the Flyers outperformed the Leafs in every other position except goalie. JayWay
I don't see it that way. Despite claims that the Flyers outplayed the Leafs, and that we made them "look like Real Madrid", I though the run of play was very much equal. Unlike the Sens series, I thought it was the intangibles that decided this series. As with last year, things like home-ice advantage played a huge role in just barely tipping the scale one way or another. That's why the Leafs were able to claw back and tie the series in games 3 and 4. Both keepers played well; both teams were sound defensively (not many odd man rushes throughout the series); both teams' special teams were equally dissapointing, and physically it was a closely fought series. I guess that's just the way things go. We get outplayed by the Sens for seven games and advance. Then we go on to defy the critics and match the Flyers stride for stride with the result being us getting knocked out in six. Roll of the dice, I suppose. argh1
Well, for a team that builds itself as "Leaf Nation " . Actually I did touch on this before</u> the Leafs were eliminated (in that thread that was created after the Leafs beat the Sens: "LPGA ..."). It was all part of my "playoffs are a crap-shoot" theory! You guys can analyse these series to death if you want. Reality is, if you re-do these playoffs again and again you'll get totally different outcomes w/o changing the teams. [8)]
canadiankick97
Nevertheless, Fergie's gonna stick with Quinn for next year (providing there is hockey next year). I'm not really against Quinn but some of the things he did in this series were very confusing. Antropov and Reichel? They should trade the two of them for a bag of pucks. Where were Francis and Stajan?
