sstackho
I'm getting excited about tomorrow's Division One matches (come on Palace!) so I'll entertain myself by listing the important promotion/relegation matches for Canucks in England. DeVos and Wigan are away to Nottingham Forest. Wigan are clinging on to the last playoff spot for the moment, and have a tough final match against West Ham next week. Pesch and Derby County are currently one point out of the relegation zone. Derby are home to Millwall, currently sitting 10th and do not have a realistic chance at making the playoffs. Palace (no Canadians, but they are in need of a keeper (Lars?)) can get into the playoffs if they win their final two matches. Tomorrow is home against Walsall, who are the team sitting one point below Derby for the last relegation spot. So you lot should all be cheering for Palace on Saturday. In Division Two, Marc Bircham and QPR are in tough at home against 4th-place Swindon Town. QPR currently have a one-point lead for the second automatic promotion spot. In the Premiership, I suppose Everton and Tottenham aren't mathematically safe yet. Radz and Everton are away to Wolves, who have to win to avoid being relegated. Tottenham play away to Aston Villa on Sunday. Apparently, if Leeds lose away to Bolton on Sunday, then Everton and Tottenham are both safe. Winnipeg Fury
Werder/Stalteri near Bundesliga title with 6-0 rout By Patrick Vignal BERLIN, May 1 (Reuters) - Bundesliga leaders Werder Bremen underlined their determination to clinch the title with a 6-0 demolition of Hamburg SV on Saturday that kept them six points clear at the top with three games left. ADVERTISEMENT Second-placed champions Bayern Munich, who will entertain Werder in a potentially decisive clash next weekend, needed a late goal from substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger to beat bottom club Cologne 2-1 and keep alive their slim title hopes. The defeat left Cologne 12 points from safety and means the three-times champions are relegated. Werder, chasing a fourth crown but their first since 1993, extended their unbeaten run to 22 games with a spectacular performance in a one-sided northern derby. The leaders, who had won just one of their last five games and heard Bayern captain Oliver Kahn say they were getting nervous, strongly suggested they would not collapse in the final straight. "We played well from the kickoff and kept it up for 90 minutes," said Werder coach Thomas Schaaf. "We scored wonderful goals and thrilled our fans." Hamburg midfielder Sergej Barbarez gave Werder the lead when he headed the ball into his own net after 16 minutes. French defender Valerien Ismael and Croatia striker Ivan Klasnic added two more goals for the home side before the break. Strikes from top Bundesliga goalscorer Ailton and substitute forward Nelson Valdez followed after the break before Ukraine midfielder Viktor Skripnik wrapped it up with a late penalty. PODOSLKI STRIKE Bayern, at risk of ending the season without a title after early exits from the German Cup and the Champions League, trailed Cologne 1-0 after a goal from teenage striker and Euro 2004 candidate Lukas Podolski on 24 minutes. Peru striker Claudio Pizarro levelled five minutes from the break before a deflected effort from Schweinsteiger on 75 minutes gave the champions victory. "We started well but Podolski's goal against the run of play gave Cologne wings and it then became tough for us," said Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. "This is a very important victory. We still have legitimate hopes of retaining the title," added Hitzfeld, who said on Friday that he would leave Bayern at the end of next season. "We wanted to give Bayern a hard time but, once again, we wasted many chances," said Cologne coach Marcel Koller. "What we have to do now is quickly build a team strong enough to move straight back up." Third-placed VfB Stuttgart, fighting with Bayern for second place and direct access to the Champions League, entertain VL Bochum on Sunday. Guest Jeffery S.
Filling in in England, Radz played 90 as Everton fell to Wolves 2-1. In Div. 3 Terry Dunfield came on m. 63 as Bury lost to Northampton 3-2. In Scotland, 2nd Division, Emilio Bottiglieri did not dress it seems for Morton, who lost again to Dumbarton 3-0, they're entrenched in 2nd spot. Over in the Helvetican Commonwealth, Daniel Imhof played 90 as St. Gallen beat Xamax 0-1 away, they are in 4th spot in the league and playing very well over the past month or so. In the MLS Onstad played 90 and de Rosario came on in m. 73 as the Earthquakes could do no more than draw DC United (Adu started) 1-1 at home. jonovision
According to livescore.com, Rob Friend has scored in the 54th minute for Moss FK who lead Skeid Oslo in the second half in Norway's 1st division. Odd Grenland is also in action today, with Occean presumably playing. Edit: Occean has scored for Odd Grenland late in the 2nd half to tie the game at 1-1 with Brann. It is certainly much harder finding information on the Scandinavian contingent than it is on the UK + German group. Any good sites to recommend (in English, preferably?) Winnipeg Fury
Friend scores a brace for Moss FK ! The second goal in the 90 minute, to complete a 4-0 road victory over Skeid Oslo. Moss FK move into second place in the Norwegian First Division. Poz and Kojic languish at the bottom after a 1-1 draw with Godset. That's 1 pt in four matches for Haugesund. Winnipeg Fury
In the Tippeligaen, Reda's Sogndal find themselves dead last after another defeat. Reda pulled in the 8th minute and Lyn winning 2-0. Otto scores the critical goal for Odd Grenland, as they steal a point in front of 14,000 spectators at Brann. Odd remain in second place in the Tippiligaen after the 1-1 draw. Guest Jeffery S.
Fernando Aguiar has started on the bench for Benfica in the Lisbon derby, with Benfica still with a shot to tie Sporting and even move ahead on goal difference if they win by more than a goal. Also in Portugal, Kevin de Serpa's Penafiel has promoted to top flight after today's draw with Leixoes, no word on whether he played (he has not seen too much time lately; wonder if he has another year on his contract). Guest Jeffery S.
Fernando Aguiar comes on to strengthen the midfield m. 60 along with Geovanni, who scores the winner m. 88 (0-1) to put Benfica three points up on Sporting Lisbon with a game left. They've been behind them all year. With a point next week in the league's final game Benfica takes the 2nd Champions spot. Benfica goal in Sporting's stadium led to a field invasion by Sporting radical supporters, followed by a major police intervention, game held up quite a few minutes. I'll be really curious to see if Fernando can get another year's contract or whether he'll be on a mid-level team in Portugal next year, it is a tough call. My understanding is that he is cool about this, as he may prefer a two or three year deal on another side to ensure his career until retirement. This win today may mean that coach Camacho will continue at Benfica after making (almost) Champions, and perhaps that will be a plus for Fernando, as he has the coach's respect and confidence; rumours also say that they are not looking to sign in the midfield, only at the back and maybe up front, though with Mantorras healthy again after more than a year out that could be their best new face in attack. Luis_Rancagua
Marco Reda's Sogndal is surely starting the season in the wrong direction. For fcuk sakes there dead last in the stadings of the Tippeligaen. Guest Jeffery S.
Upgrading Norway 2nd tier (1st Div) both Friend and Patrice Bernier played 90 in their match, vg.no gave the former man of the match. Haugesund away to Stromgodset drew 1-1 with Milan Kojic and Chris Pozniak both going the whole way. I am still wondering about Pozniak's move a division down and west to Norway from top flight Sweden.
