Media day Report:

It was a great big old sunny beautiful wonderful kinda day as the 2004 Seattle Sounders took the pitch at The Hawk as a part of the club's "Media Day." Lots of pictures will be posted later tonight (4-20-04).

It was good to see the Pod so well-represented. Just a reminder that we are very much appreciated by the players & club---many of them knew us by our first names!

The microphone didn't work, but basically Adrian Hanauer started with a brief update on MLS Seattle: "We have the plan, we have league approval, we have partial investors---just not the "big fish" yet who is willing to lose big bucks for a few years as the team takes hold."

Brian Schmetzer spoke about his 2004 squad, and also introduced Pepe Fernandez, Jimmy Gabriel and Chance Fry as Sounder greats, among others, who will be honored this season during the 7 Saturday home matches.

Brian is very excited about his squad, calling them "loaded" and having "great chemistry and team spirit." It showed during the heated warm-up games which followed. This team is very skilled and very competitive.

Reports on camera interviewed Billy Sleeth and Welton (watch KING 5 Tonight) and Matt Massey of the Times and Mark Moschetti of the Journal were on hand.

Other Media Day News:

The club did NOT wear their new kits, but horror of horrors, we have seen the new color scheme for home---navy and white---with the 'navy' looking eerily like Whitecaps blue. The club wore blue shorts at the event, as the photos show. Those apparently are the color of the new shorts, just not the design.

It's green-green-green on the road.

Roger Levesque is with the team, and awaits approval from the league on his contract, as does Kevin Sakuda.

I met Robbie Aristodemo's girlfriend Carrie before the gates opened. They both are happy to be comign to Seattle. Robbie was clearly "wowed" by Seahawks Stadium, and was running sprints to stretch out even after the other players had headed back in.

After a couple of years at Centennial, it wouldn't take much for Robbie to be wowed, but yeah it looks like a beautiful place.

It looks wrong to be in another team's t-shirt, but Robbie looks right in a major league stadium.

He was on the same CNT U20 side as DeRosario, Stalteri and Bent.  And one of the better players in the World Cup for that age group.   Never quite panned out as well as the other 3.  Clarke was the other really good player on that side who played somewhat professionally but not as high as the others; whereas Hastings had a decent career from that age group and Brennan even better although he didnt make that side
