If it's a World Cup Qualifier, I have no doubt that it could pull in up to 30,000. You would have to set the ticket prices lower, and then the question becomes if it's worthwile bringing in a real grass field.

quote:Why is it a "Liverpool game"? Why isn't it a "Porto game"? Let's be fair and call it a "Liverpool vs. Porto game".

Because nothing official has been said that it will be Porto playing them. Only Liverpool has been confirmed.

Once - Absolutely. 10 games? Well you just might have a possible $5-$10 million downpayment on one.

Why would I care about some silly one-offs?

If people are Liverpool or Porto supporters, than I can understand their excitement. But why are the rest of you in such a hurry to wet your pants?

Because its either that or watching some meaningless Blue Jays' game for the 108th consectutive day!! Whether you wanna admit it or not, it'll still be the biggest sporting event in all of Canada this summer....

No, we do not live in Brazil! ;)

Some meaningless Blue Jays game? Hahah, I can't believe the irony of your statement!

The Blue Jays are their team, and Blue Jays games, while clearly in abundance, all count for the final league standings.

Meanwhile, Liverpool vs. Porto will count for diddly-squad. Now that is what I call "meaningless".

So nyah nyah nyah. Err....

The Blue Jays aren't really Toronto's team. They are just as much a bunch of foreigners as the players on Liverpool and Porto, they just play here more regularly. And their games might "count", but they are even more meaningless than any type of soccer friendly that gets played here.

Basically you took the words out of my mouth. But to extend on that, in July the Blue Jays will be playing for next year</u> while Porto/Liverpool will be playing for next month</u>. :)

Whose team are they, then? Fiji's?

I guess Chelsea aren't Chelsea's club, given the lack of Londoners playing for the club... [:0]

You might as well compare fish to grass. For your analogy to work better you should have stated players from the Chelsea area of London, since their are a ton of teams from London. For a sense of "hometown" heroes in the community it doesn't mean that you need to have people who live within 5 minutes of the Skydome or Stamford Bridge but at least a few Canadian players, never mind Ontario or Toronto, would help. At least Chelsea isn't made up completely of foreigners and having been to Stamford Bridge I can tell that there is a greater sense of community between the team's fans & the club than the Blue Jays currently have in Toronto.

By the way, for someone who claims not to care at all about this match, you are spending quite a bit of time posting in a thread about it. [:P]

To be fair to Chelsea, this year they do actually have 4 players born within a tube ride of Chelsea. Terry(45) Lampard(51) Cole(45) and Johnson(28) Number in brackets is the total number of appearances each player has played this season so they are not just window dressing. Lampard actually leads the club in appearances with 50 starts and one as a sub in league and all cups combined.
