Mark Rogers and his future with Wycombe Wanderers

I think the question should be: "Does Tony Adams want him?"

Personally I don't think so. He was terrible again on Saturday playing in a 3-4-3 formation. He gifted a goal to the opposition. The BBC went easy on him saying: "Sam Parkin robbed Mark Rogers to run in on goal and curl a left-foot shot into the far corner..." Essentially, he panicked and gave the ball away easily.

He seems too nervy to be an effective defender.

This is confirmed by the BBC website:

"Wycombe have parted company with striker Richard Harris... The former Crystal Palace player follows Stevenage-bound Mark Rogers in leaving the Causeway Stadium."

Well hopefully Stevenage get promoted straight away so Mark can atleast get back into the football league. I guess this pushes mark further down the pecking order for Canada and all but rules him out for selection.

Unfortunately for this year, Stevenage is no where near the promotion zone. In fact, the club sits in 9th place in the standings of the Conference league. That means that Rogers will spend a long time in an inferior football level. This guy is better off playing in the A-League or Scandinavia.

A co-worker, who actually lives in High Wycombe and is a huge supporter, passes this along:

Hi Malcolm,

Thought you'd be interested to know Mark Rogers has now left Wycombe Wanderers. The usual "mutual consent" label has been applied to the transfer.

After the gaffe he made last Saturday to give away the second goal to Swindon, most Wycombe fans will be glad to see him go.

Cheers,

Martin

From the BBC

Graham Westley has continued his squad strengthening at Stevenage for next season by buying Wycombe's Mark Rogers.

Rogers is surplus to requirements at Wycombe and has been given the go-ahead to move to Broadhall Way.

The Canadian international spent a spell on loan at Stevenage earlier this season before being re-called due to injury problems at Wycombe.

The 28-year-old started over 150 games for Wycombe after joining the club from Burnaby Canadians in August, 1998.

From Stevenage

Stevenage have confirmed that agreement has been reached with Wycombe Wanderers for Mark Rogers to transfer to Broadhall Way. Canadian International Rogers played on loan at Stevenage during the 2003/04 season and the club enjoyed good success whilst he was on loan.

Manager Graham Westley described Rogers as 'a first class professional and a major improvement to our team'.

(A good article with lots of quotes from Mark).

Rogers signs for Stevenage

http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/sport/wanderers/bluesnews/display.var.482999.0.rogers_signs_for_stevenage.php

WANDERERS defender Mark Rogers has joined Stevenage Borough after being told he is no longer in manager Tony Adams' plans.

The centre half, who won seven caps for Canada during his six years with the Blues, has signed a one-year deal with The Conference outfit.

Rogers, who had one year left on his Wanderers contract, said: "I don't want to leave, but I came to England to play football.

"I could have sat around for a year and picked up my money, but I didn't want to do that.

"It would have been a waste of my time and Wycombe's money.

"It hurt being told I wasn't in the manager's plans, but I realise football is all about opinions.

"There's no hard feelings. I'm a grown man, not a little kid and I can accept it."

Rogers was on loan at Stevenage earlier this season and he is relishing the chance to go back there, even if it means dropping out of the Football League.

He said: "They're a very ambitious and well-run club. They're full time and I wouldn't be going there if I didn't think they had a chance of getting promoted to the Football League."

Rogers has made just 15 appearances for the already-relegated Blues this season with his last coming during last Saturday's 3-0 humiliating home defeat against Swindon Town, when he was at fault for the Robins second goal.

He said: "It wasn't the way I would have wanted to go out. But I've had six years here and Wycombe will always be my club.

"They gave me the chance to play professional football and helped me to become an international player."

The centre half joined Wycombe after paying his own air fare to come over for a trial.

Assistant manager Peter Cawley said: "You couldn't ask for a nicer guy. Mark has gone with the best wishes of everyone at this club
