Rocket Robin
New soccer hating sportscaster joins Toronto CITY-TV from Vancouver CITY-TV I couldn't stick around to hear his first sportscast on CITY-TV at 7:00am this morning but the station did play a promo of him with his last sportscast bit from Vancouver. He does some interviews in the streets of Vancouver while wearing a Canucks hockey jersey (the classic early 1970s version) then wearing a Maple Leafs jersey picking up comments from passers-by. Advice picked up from the locals included "You're get used to it" and "Support your new team". One fan said "Start following soccer" and he turns to the camera, shrugs his shoulders and says "But I hate soccer". I didn't catch his name but if you want to know I can post it tomorrow. I would have thought the culture of Vancouver would be a bit more supportive of soccer. One more chance to take it back after the report ended and he was sitting with the Toronto newscasters. Commenting on how he'll fit in, the blond co-anchor said "...(liking what to cover)but not soccer" and he said "Yeah". Just what this city (Toronto) doesn't need, another soccer hating sportscaster. This is not a 'high' culture station folks. I saw their report today on a US minor league hockey game where they had 5000 people sit on whoopee cushions to set a world record at least twice in a half hour span. ................................ This posting is from what I saw today and not meant to have Voyageur poster Johnn start another round of media conspiracy theories.
