amacpher
quote:Originally posted by Jarrek Work of the Basque Seperatist movement or Al-Qaida? Definitely Basque. Big elections over there this weekend and I believe the party that is most against the Basque seperatists are leading the polls. I think it's also stupid that they're playing that UEFA Cup game in Villareal today. I'd postpone it, but that's just me.
Michael Crampton
Presuming that this was ETA this could really be a big turning point over there. This irrevocably proves that they're nothing more than a bunch of thugs with a fetish for violence. Hopefully the Spanish government doesn't over-react though ala Bush or Trudeau. Mike. Guest Jeffery S.
I sent this e-mail to UEFA this morning. Dear Sirs I am a Canadian-born football fan resident in Barcelona since 1987. I have great respect for the work of UEFA in organizing attractive continental tournaments, which I feel UEFA does efficiently and with consideration towards fans the world over. But my reason for writing is to express my profound displeasure at the insensitivity of your organization in the light of the terrorist attacks in Madrid yesterday, March 11. UEFA committed a grave error by not accepting the requests of Spanish teams participating in UEFA competitions to postpone their respective games until next week. This is especially so considering their rivals were in every case willing to accede. Furthermore, I feel that UEFA showed a total lack of humanity by not obliging all games played last night, and not only those with Spanish teams, to respect a minute of silence. Neither did they ask their referees to wear black armbands in solidarity with Spanish football and the victims of yesterday's attack. UEFA has failed us miserably. In showing that they lack the basic qualities of humanity that even a child can grasp, Mr. Lennart Johansson and his countryman Mr. Lars-Christer Olssen have demonstrated to Spanish football that their are incompetent to continue in their respective posts at UEFA. I ask for their immediate resignations and, especially in the latter case, that the UEFA Executive Committee publicly reprimand Mr. Olssen for his scandalous, mercenary attitude before the terrible tragedy lived through yesterday. Yours sincerely, Jeffrey Swartz Barcelona
