Took a quick look at Montreal's schedule:

-The team will play against 11 of the other 15 teams[^]. The only teams they will not face are all from the West: Seattle, Portland, Minnesota, Milwaukee.

-First three games on the road.

-Will only play Rochester once at home!

-Will host Puerto Rico twice at home.

-Tough schedule in June and July with 8 out of 12 games on the road from June 6 to July 16.[xx(]

-Six game home stand from July 28 through August 25.

-Will play against each Canadian team once at home and once away, with the exception of Toronto who will play two games in Montreal and host Montreal once.

DOUBLEHEADERS WITH W-LEAGUE, INCLUDING SOME V-CUP TIES![8D] :D

A quick look at the Men's Edmonton Aviators schedule looks like they have arranged some DOUBLEHEADERS with A-League and W-League teams!

This is going to be great!

In one case it is with teams from the same city, ie:

June 3

Seattle Sounders Women v. Aviators

Seattle Sounders Men v. Aviators

In some cases it is not, because the opposing teams do not have Men's and Women's teams, ie:

May 30 (Commonwealth Opener for both Aviator teams)

Arizona v. Women Aviators &

Minnesota v. Men Aviators

July 17 (Women's A's finale)

Milwaukee v. Men's A's

Lady Cougars (Denver) v. Women A's

,but in some cases, strangely, they were not able to coordinate the Women's and Men's teams:

ie:

June 16

Montreal Impact v. Men Aviators &

Vancouver Whitecap Women v. Women A's

June 20

Fort Collins v. Women's A's &

Vancouver Whitecap Men v. Men A's

June 27 Mile High (Denver) v. Women's A's &

Calgary Men v. Men A's

July 14 Calgary Women v. Women's Aviators & Vancouver Men Whitecaps v. Men's Aviators

This will make more attraction for out-of-town Voyageurs to come to Edmonton for the Voyageur Cup games!..;.BARRRRRRRRRRRBYQQQQUUUUUUUUUUUE![^]

There will be no doubleheader when the Toronto Lynx come to Commonwealth on July 26 though (the Women's A's regular season will have ended).

I haven't had time to check to see if the other Canadian teams have made similiar arrangements, but I wouldn't be suprised to see it is limited to Edmonton, where they will try to get as many people into the Commonwealth behemoth as they can. Both Aviators teams play at a double-header in Seattle seahawk's stadium, on July 7, though.

Hatzoff to the Aviator and USL offices for this accomplishment[:X]! This is especially so since the A-league schedule starts over half a month before and ends 1 1/2 months after the W-League schedule We can only hope that the CSA and the Canadian leagues can learn something from tis organization.

Sorry about listing the visiting teams first, but this is how it shows on the USL schedules !

The Whitecaps have arranged two doubleheaders as well, at Swangard, ie:

May 23

Portland v. Men's W's

Edmonton Women A's v. Women's W's

July 24

Milwaukee v. Men's W's

Mile High (Denver) v. Women's W's

Both Calgary teams have games at the same time in

Calgary involving teams from differnet cities, but there don't appear to be doubleheaders arranged. The women's team in Calgary are listed

as playing at the Calgary Rugby Park, but the men's teams are at "TBD". Given that there are different organizations running each team in Calgary and the organizational difficulties with both organizations, arranged doubleheaders are unlikely.

A cursory look at the schedules shows that the eastern A-league and W-League teams in Canda have not arranged any doubleheaders, given that they all have different organizations and different stadia, although it could hav been arranged with the USL through minimal cooperation. Even the Sudbury and Ottawa W-League teams should have tried to arrange something with the Toronto and Montreal teams for the good of the game. Maybe in 2005.

My understanding is that ALL of the Edmonton Women Aviator's games will be doubleheaders. I have my season tickets which I bought with that understanding. Common ownership is awesome ... we probably have the Whitecaps to thank for that model.

My prediction: the Aviator women will outdraw many (most?) A-League men.

It sucks that intra-division series are 2 or 3 games. We see Toronto twice but Rochester once, what the hell is that? ;)

Also, someone on the usldiscussions board mentioned a possibility of a home game in Sherbrooke (??). If so, we'd lose 2 home games to other cities, which would kinda suck. I mean, it's the "Montréal" Impact, right? Québec City will have gotten games for 3 years in a row, they better find a prospective owner.

Also, after the 20th of June, the Impact don't see the Lynx all year!!! And that's the only time after the 29th of May we meet them!

Prospective VCup dates for the Impact using the 2002 method of scheduling (no sign of a CACup in 2004):

1. 29/5 @ Toronto

2. 11/6 @ Vancouver

3. 13/6 @ Calgary

4. 16/6 @ Edmonton

5. 20/6 v Toronto

6. 21/7 v Calgary

7. 6/8 v Vancouver

8. 25/8 v Edmonton

4 away games followed by 4 home games. Echos of 2003.

TORONTO LYNX MEDIA RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LYNX EIGHTH SEASON: 2004 SCHEDULE!

January 8, 2004 (TORONTO, ON) – The Toronto Lynx announced their 2004 schedule today ( 14 home and 14 away games) which will make this their eighth season of showcasing and developing pro soccer in Canada’s largest city! With a new two conference format in 2004, there will be more extended road trips for most clubs in the A-League and the Lynx are no exception. Each A-League team must play 4 back-to-back games in the interest of fair competition and to make travel cost effective. The Lynx schedule in 2004 also has many more weekday games than in recent years that will accommodate fans who have busy weekends.

Due to our Canadian weather, the Lynx will once again have to start their season on the road with 4 games before the home opener. The first road game will take place against the expansion Puerto Rico Islanders in their inaugural A-League match on Saturday, April 17th. This match will be followed closely with a match versus the Rochester Raging Rhinos in their home opener on Saturday, May 1st when Lynx “superfans” through the newly formed Toronto Lynx Supporters club are sure to make the trip to take in the action perhaps through the new ferry service that is in the works between the two cities.

Toronto Lynx fans will have to wait until Sunday May 16th to see their home team in action which is the official home opener kicking off at 4:00 against the Rochester Raging Rhinos at Centennial Park Stadium. The schedule also includes a home-and-home series against Canadian rival and 2003 Northeast Division champion, the Montreal Impact, on Friday, May 28th @ Montreal and Saturday, May 29th in Toronto at 6:00pm.

The Puerto Rico Islanders will be in town on Sunday June 6th for the Lynx annual Fiesta Latina Night which is certain to thrill the growing Latino-Canadian fan base and again on Wednesday June 9th for their sold out annual School Day. This year the Lynx have partnered with OFSAA for a double header. The A-League match will kick off at 11:00 followed by the OFSAA Girls AAA/AAAA Soccer Championship which kicks off at 1:30.

The Lynx will once again go out west this season to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps on Friday June 25th and will face the Whitecaps in Toronto on Saturday August 7th for the Lynx annual East Meets West Night to honour the Asian Communities in the GTA. A second western fling to take on the Calgary A-League team and the Canadian expansion team, the Edmonton Aviators will take place on Sunday July 25th and Monday July 26th respectively.

Calgary will make their trip to Toronto on Sunday July 18th for the Union and Employee Night while Toronto fans will have to wait to catch a glimpse of the Edmonton Aviators on the last home regular season match on Thursday August 26th when the Lynx host their 2004 Toronto Lynx Player Awards Celebrations and Fan Appreciation Night. Playoffs are set to start on September 3 and 5th for the conference semifinals; September 10 and 12th for the conference finals and A-League finals on September 18th which will be televised on Fox Sports World and Fox Sports World Canada.

The defending 2003 A-League Champions, the Charleston Battery will be coming into town for their only trip in 2004 to our city, on Thursday July 8th when the Lynx will celebrate the 2004 Olympics by hosting various sports organizations and athletes. Youth organizations catering to youth during the summer months such as Community Centres, Soccer and Sports Academies and Camps, Community Schools and Private Schools running summer programs will be pleased to know that the Lynx will once again host a Youth Day on Wednesday July 14th when they take on the Richmond Kickers with a 12:00 kick off.

The last regular season games will take place on the road on Saturday August 28th in Atlanta and Sunday August 29th in Charleston. With a new head coach and increased excitement surrounding the Lynx after a positive end to the 2003 season, which saw them win their final two regular season games, hopes are high that the Lynx will reach the playoffs for the first time since 2000.

The club has kept ticket prices unchanged @ $15/adult and $7.50/youth and seniors. With the early season promo ending December 31st, the marketing department will be announcing a new season ticket package soon. To accommodate the many fans that play the game and have busy schedules, the Lynx will be providing two flexpaks this season which is certain to be popular. Group outings are still the primary source of ticket revenue for the Lynx through the growing community partnerships. The club has made it easier for group members and organizations to place their orders through an on-line system that will eliminate the need for a group leader to oversee and collect orders. For more information on these and other Lynx programs call 416-251-4625 ext. 31 or e-mail: lynx@lynxsoccer.com. See website for regular updates: www.lynxsoccer.com.

Toronto Lynx only have one conflict with Toronto Inferno (W-league) and that's ironically their "Girl Power Night" when they play at 6:00pm at Centennial and the Inferno home opener at Birchmount Stadium is at 7:00pm vs South Jersey Banshees. At least the Inferno players won't be accepting bouquets at this year's game.

That "superfans" line about the official Lynx supporters is vomitous. I am not against official fan clubs, and I don't think other supporter groups should feel at all obliged to join in. The more the merrier. But I am a bit surprised that on other threads the Ultras have not shown themselves to be more irritated. Or maybe I'm wrong.

In any case, perhaps the whole process should be seen as a maturing sign. Even with the Voyageurs I would not mind knowing there are other fan clubs out there. Having multiple support groups in their own sections is attractive and responds to the reality of most clubs and some national teams. Love those moments when supporters try to out shout each other across a stadium. Maybe what bugs me is the way the Lynx hype themselves through easy press releases, when from what I see here the rest of the organization is not at the level of the communications officer's rhetoric.

It's ironic, since the Ultras jokingly used 'superfans' as a derogatory reference to the Storm Chasers in some of their propaganda last year.
