CPSL Players

Here are all these CPSL Players:

Carlo Arghittu (St. Catharines Wolves)

Danny Amaral (Toronto Supra)

Michael Diluca (Toronto Supra)

Jahmo Welch (Durham Flames)

Phil Ionadi (Brampton Hitmen)

Charles Gbeke (Ottawa Wizards)

Hugo Herrara (Brampton Hitmen)

Joey Todaro (Vaughan Sun Devils)

Alen Marcina (Ottawa Wizards)

Stalin Cardenas (Hamilton Thunder)

Kevin De Serpa (Hamilton Thunder)

Craig Patton (Metro Lions)

All these plyers rank as the top goal scorers in the CPSL, and I am also assuming that they are all Canadian citizens. I am wondering if any of these players are capable of playing in the A-League?? How many of these players have been invited for trials in Europe?? How many of these players will be considered as possible candidates for Canada's U-20??

From what I know Charles Gbeke already had a stint with the whitecaps for 3 seasons. Now he is in edmonton. Darryl gomes and hayden fitzwilliams both played for trinidad and tobago at various youth levels including U23. I believe but could be wrong that kevin de serpa played in europe somewhere(i wanna say portugal) and also with the lynx. In my opinion, from playing on the best defense in the CPSL for the past 3 seasons, carlo arghittu can play in the a-league no problem. I don't know about the rest but i hope that gives you some sort of idea about these guys

Midfielders Kevin de Serpa and Adam Leggett have snagged spots on Penafiel, a second division club in Portugal and both were borned in Canada. I'm not sure where Stalin Cardenas is playing next year but i know he was borned in Canada. WIth a lot of player for the CPSL going over to sides overseas it shows that the CPSL does help show case canadian players to teams overseas. I think it is a great steping stone league.

Charles Gbeke was born in the ivory coast but has been living here for quite some time and does have canadian citizenship. Marcina had try outs in Turkey and Belgium in the summer and as far as I know it went sour for a few reasons, one being the teams he went to try out for were given the impression that he was a free agent when he wasn't. This wasted a lot of time and money. He had also claimed to have been selected to play with Club Brugges but when the wizards asked for a $20,000 transfer fee they backed out, which sounds very fishy because a to a 1st div team, who also play in the Champions League, $20,000 canadian is peanuts. So either he came back telling fairytales or Club Brugges is in the poor house.

hamiltonfan there is one thing that i disagree with. The fact that you give the CPSL full credit for us players going overseas, when in my case and Charles, Peter Mponda, Mac Yobe, Kwame telemaque, Shurland david, Kevin nelson, Richard goddard, Roger Groome, Simon Eaddy, Urbain Some, and a few more that I can't remember, all played at a higher level and developed our game in some other league either equivilent to the a-league or higher.

Merry Christmas and All The Best For The New Year

I remember playing against St. Catherines and HOlger being on the sidelines with clipboard. And I'm not familiar with any other CSA faces.

As for Shurland he is playing for Caledonia AIA in the PFL(Trinidad and Tobago) He was a great contribution to the Wizards, too bad management wasn't looking to the future cuz with the players that went through ottawa we could easily compete in the A-league. Now if you go by the OZ dome all you see is a great facility but noone to play on it. Kanata soccer used to have teams play on the practice pitch but now that all ties were severed between kanata soccer(hubert busby-tech dir,) and the Wizards, I doubt they can even rent it out to anyone. I suppose it's a fitting end to a 3 year stint filled with turmoil and lawsuits.

I personally feel that there is so much talent in the CPSL. It's a shame that the CSA does not work together with the CPSL. Something has to be done. I wish the CSA will get more involved perhaps in the near future.

Furthermore, "THE TRUTH" what are these rumors about a Quebec Division in the CPSL. Is this all talk and wishful thinking??? Can you actually foresee this idea of taking place perhaps for this coming season 2004???

bettermirror: That guy who " is good enough to play in English first div" if you don't know is Macdonald Yobe, who already has 30+ caps for his African nation of Malawi. So you give me a break, when you don't know don't assume. And so you know Mac YObe is in the Uk as we speak. Do you think that everyone who plays in canada wants to be here cuz if so you are sorely mistaken. As sigma said being in the right place at the right time is everything. You should know this by now about professional sports. So if ya don't know, NOW YOU KNOW.

i think like most canadians you either overestimate or underestimate the athletes in this country. regardless of whether or not they are from canada. i know enough that you don't always have to be in the right place at the right time. you make your own opportunities. every a-league club as open trials and the mls has an open league trial. if these players are so good why not catch on in one of these leagues trials? i have actually heard of yobe. yes he's a fine talent. but c'mon. any of our boys would have 30 plus caps for malawi too.

See that's the problem, you've heard of him you haven't seen him. And you also haven't seen The Malawi national team play. They play against real teams such as nigeria, cameroon, south africa not malta, switzerland and belize. So please don't criticize what you don't know. Malawi like many african nations is very poor and the players don't always have the chance to showcase themselves at different camps and trials. A plane ticket alone costs close to $4000CAN to and from Malawi and then he has to worry about a place to stay, food and so forth. Also he has to deal with international papers which everyone knows is not an easy task. And as a underestimated Canadian i do not underestimate anyone. soccer is this country will always be second rate cuz hockey will always be number one. So what i was trying to say is that if a player had a choice of whther to play in canada or the states of even europe(at the same level), canada would be the last choice by any footballer. Also all we, as players can do is keep training and be prepared when opportunity knocks but Every player on this board and every player in pro sports will agree that it is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I will not argur with you on this anymore as you obviously don't play and don't know that much of what really goes on off the pitch

Ok I'm glad you went on trial and I don't really care about the circumstances surrounding you not being offered a contract but what I would like to know is where you play now and if a trial in england is your claim to fame then that's pretty sad cuz my daddy could have paid for me to go across there and hit a post too but doesn't mean I'm good. In fact I know and good friends with the Canadaian youth scout for Tranmere( does the name peter corcoran sr sound familiar) and a few guys I played with back in the day went across there on trial and guess where they play now. The Manitoba Major soccer League. So let me ask again. Where do you play now?

i achieved my goal of a professional trial - and no, daddy didn't pay for me. yes, peter corcoran sr does sound familiar - and then returned to canada to finish my youth career. played vancouver metro concurrently and then retired to focus on school. playing now has nothing to do with whether or not i was good then. i've been retired for three years and could walk onto most vmsl clubs tomorrow.

so can we end this pithy argument? my point is, that yes, to some degree being in the right place at the right time is a huge help. but, you also make your opportunities. being from chilliwack i had to earn everything i got.

Well I'm glad your goal was to go on a trial and hit a post and I'm glad you earned your way out of chilliwak but lets get one thing straight cuz you are obviously very mistaken. If tranmere was to offer you a lucrative deal i doubt you would have given that up to "concentrate on your school". that statement was just a cop out. Cuz obviously it was your dream to make it as a pro and you gave up after one trial and a few years of youth soccer. So now that this pithy argument is over with I can go back to talkin about soccer with people who actually have knowledge of the game and it's inner workings.

Am I going to have to put you two in a time-out?

I admire Bettermirror for remaining civil throughout this argument, he's a better man than I would have been.

THE TRUTH, your input in this forum is largely very useful, and welcome, but if the endgame to every debate you find yourself in is "I played pro so you don't know what you're talking about", well I think I'm not alone in thinking that it's not necessary.

As I said, your point of view is usually very insightful since we don't get many pros coming on here, but the manner in which you debate can be a little abrasive. Lightnen up! [8D]

MImglow I agree with you that sometimes i can get a little harsh but make no mistake I am not pushing what I've done in anyones face. I still consider myself new to all this and I have a lot to learn but I do reaserch this game and all the inner workings every single day and I took offense to bettermirror coming of as very sarcastic when referring to my friend Mac Yobe, when he has no clue about his situation just an uninformed opinion so I took it upon myself to educate him on that situation and a few others. That is how I am, my friends are like my family and I will always stick up for them no matter what.
