beachesl
Just to add, FYI to those that may not know, that 3rd place is important because it wins placement in the next round of the UEFA Cup competition.
Mimglow
I don't know if any of you are watching the Live Commentary of the Chelsea-Besiktas match (which is being played in a "neutral" Germany venue), it is getting a little crazy. Here are some excerpts (read from bottom-up): 50 mins A blue flare how now gone off in Cudicini's goalmouth, football hard to concentrate on right now 49 mins A firework now explodes on the touchline 47 mins As soon as we kick off, more toilet paper is thrown on - the match is going on while stewards are on the pitch! 46 mins Now we're finally underway in the second half 45 mins Frisk finally brings the players back on - now flares, which are banned, are being lit 45 mins There's a banner of 'Terrorist UEFA' in the stand, protesting against the game's move to Germany 45 mins Frisk has order the players off the pitch - disgraceful from the Turkish fans 45 mins Furious referee Anders Frisk has words with the stadium director 45 mins It's cleared away - and straight away the fans start to hurl more onto the pitch. 45 mins The kick-off is delayed due to the amount of toilet paper thrown onto the pitch. One corner of the pitch is completely obscured 45 mins Chelsea have been the better side, despite the behaviour of the Turkish fans in the stadium, without really opening up Besiktas on a regular basis
bettermirror
espn selects the most useless matches to show. why show a reserve ac milan when you could watch manchester united v. stuttgart battle for top spot at old trafford or why not club brugge v. ajax in a lowlands derby...even chelsea v. besiktas for first in their group? ticks me off to no end. united 2-0 stuttgart!!!!! Hmmm... actually the Man Utd- Stuttgart game was pretty meaningless</u> (unlike the Ac Milan-Vigo game which was critical). So I'm not totally sure what your complaint is!?? If you're a Man Utd fan I can understand you being upset (a little), but if you look at it from a neutral POV how can you complain? Celta Vigo is fighting for the all-important 2nd place, while Man Utd and Stuttgart are already assured of advancing?!! And the Ajax-Brugges game was picked up by ESPN Dos (which doesn't do you much good in Canada, but I have to hand-it to them for choosing to show that game at the last second). You have to admit that Milan - Vigo was better than Madrid-Porto which I was CONVINCED that they would show! Well since I watched the AJAX game I didn't see the Besiktas game, but from the sound of it I'm glad Chelsea won! Talk about a bunch of sore losers- that's the Turkish fans for you!! So glad to see them out of Euro 2004 not to mention the Round of 16 in the Champions' League as well!

bettermirror
i complain because it was obviously a nothing game! milan were always playing it as a warm-up to the toyota cup. celta was always going to get something from the game. the outcome was academic. how many people really care whether brugge, or vigo go through in north america? neither would advance beyond the first knockout round. ajax had the best chance, but blew it. whereas at least they would get a decent viewership for the united/stuttgart game with the large amount of germans and united fans on this continent. upside: thank god they didn't show madrid again! Bxl Boy
****ing Milan and Vigo, grrrrrrrrr So angry ! Thanks for "having played the game" Hop they will pay it both and be out after the next turn And Bruges go further in the Uefa Cup. I would have preferred to see Bruges - Ajax... I hope they will show a Belgian team (winning) soon
jonovision
bettermirror: I think you underestimate the amount of fans that are just as tired of seeing Man U every week (twice a week quite often, with premiership and CL games being televised) as they are of seeing Real Madrid. I, for one, was glad to get a chance to see a few teams that we see less often, although I would have preferred getting the Brugges - Ajax game. Cheeta
Let's not forget Wednesday's Group A critical contest with Celtic's walking wounded visiting Lyon. Victory is needed for the French side to carry through while all O'Neil's bhoys need is to not loose. May be a tall order for Celtic though as Thompson and Agathe will be sorrily missed. Balde and Miller are still limping along but able to take to the pitch. One advantage Celtic have though is a draw puts them into the knock out stage so Lyon will have to show the initiative at the home grounds. Celtic can score on the counter, but it would certainly be more comforting with Agathe ranging down that right side. Should be plenty of excitement and with more European sorrow at Ibrox today the Hoops are sure to find inspiration in outdoing their Glasgow rivals tomorrow. It could be another grand year for Celtic followers. Maybe this one will have something for the trophy case.

bettermirror
i too would have enjoyed seeing brugge/ajax as it was not only a derby, but BOTH clubs (not just one) had something to play for. (did you see the look on the faces of the ajax defenders?)

Cheeta
That is a damned hard penalty to give with 5 minutes left. If Balde's arm touched the ball, IF, it just brushed it and not enough to effect the flight. So what the Hell? Bloody conspiracy I tell you. And oh yeah. I've been slamming Hedman for a while now. Okay, I've been slamming Hedman since day one. And guess what? I'll continue to. Bugger. Soooo angry. P.S. Sounded like Lyon had a wonderful match, hats off and congrats. Hope you fu'kers draw Chelsea.
