Richard Hastings played the whole match as VVV-Venlo got a v. late goal to defeat his Maastricht MVV by 1-0. Hastings seems to be playing there in the back line.

De Vos has started for Wigan (presumably the red-card from the last match was successfully appealed?)

Pesch & Brennan are listed as subs for Shef. Utd. & Norwich respectively - in the case of Brennan it was indicated that he's not quite up to the fitness level required to play 90 minutes, but it looks like he's getting there.

Radzinski plays tomorrow. The divisions lower than 1st are play FA Cup matches, and I doubt that Tranmere will miss Hume too much against Hornchurch (a team that I've never heard of, so I'm assuming they are English Conference or lower).

De Guzman plays 90 as Hannover draws 2-2. Julian is one of the few Hannover players on the day not to pick up a yellow. Hannover scored late (88min) to get the draw.

Stalteri also played 90 (in fact, the entire Bremen team seems to have as I can find no indication of any subs) as Bremen tied Bayern Munich 1-1.

In the English First Division, Pesch came on in the 72nd minute as 10-man Sheffield United lost 3-2 to Burnley. Brennan came on the in the 60th minute as Norwich drew 0-0 with Millwall, missing a chance to go top of the table.

Wigan lost 2-0 to Reading. De Vos played the whole match & had 3 headers on net in the last 10 minutes (before Reading scored late to put the match away), but all efforts were denied by American keeper Marcus Hahnemann (one thing about the US, they are stacked in goal by Concacaf standards).

Fernando Aguiar nets one in the 63rd minute as Benfica defeat Paços de Ferreira 3-0 in Portugal`s Super liga.

Good luck to Petit when he tries to get his starting shirt back, because Aguiar has grabbed on to it pretty tight!!

Biggest game of the day had Werder Bremen taking on Bayern Munich in Bavaria. Paul Stalteri played his usual 90 minutes and Bayern came back to tie Bremen 1-1. The tie keeps Werder Bremen in second place in the Bundesliga behind VfB Stuttgart (who also drew today). They could drop to 3rd place tomorrow as Bayer Leverkusen are away to bottom team 1. FC Koeln.

Julian de Guzman played 90 minutes in midfield as their game against Eintracht Frankfurt ended in a 2-2 draw. Hannover 96 remain 9th with the single point.

Yesterday, Tam Nsaliwa and Jahn Regensburg saw their modest winning streak come to an end as they were beaten 2-0 at home by SV Wacker Burghausen. Regensburg are in 12th place in the Bundesliga 2, still 3 points clear of relegation territory.

In the Regional League South, 1.FC Saarbruecken drew 1-1 with VfR Aalen. No game report.

In the Junior Bundesliga, Jeremy Shepherd was up front for 90 minutes in Hertha Berlin's U19s win in the North/Northeast division.

No word on whether Maycoll Canizales played with Werder Bremen's amateurs today in a 2-0 win over RW Essen in the Regional League North.

Victor Oppong and 1.FC Saarbruecken II go on their winter break with a 3-0 win leaving them 3rd in the Oberliga SouthWest.

Dylan Hughes came on in the 75th minute for 1.FC Kaiserslautern's U19s in a 2-0 loss to SpVgg Greuther Fuerth in the Junioren Bundesliga South/Southwest division.

Finally, Paul Stalteri and Werder Bremen are away to SpVgg Greuther Fuerth in the quarter finals of the German FA Cup (DFB Pokal).

Rocco Placentino did not dress for Avellino's 0-0 draw versus Como on Sunday, December 7 (a missed opportunity for a real first win of the season, given that Como is the worst team in Serie B after Avellino, 5 points ahead). As mentioned before, Avellino is going with the same squad of 19 players until the transfer market opens in January, but, as only 18 are allowed to dress for each game, after making his debut last week Placentino was the odd man out this week.

No this week's news, but the Jia B season in China ended Nov. 23.

Tony Menezes got another goal in a 2-1 win for Nanking Yoyo over Henan on the 15th (he scored the week before too), and the team went on after being in the bottom spot to end up 9th in the 14 team league, with an 8-9-9 record. More goals against than for and a weak offence hurt them.

Nanking plays in a stadium with a capacity for 35,000 souls. We'll see what Tony comes up with for next year, wish him the best.

This news is a little late, but Kevin Street of Brampton was between the posts for Lynn University (Fla.) as they won the Div. 2 national championship over Cal State Chico 2-1 on Dec. 7 in Virginia Beach.

Missed this one completely. After the Canadian boys in Div. 1 saw their sides miss out on further action (won by Indiana BTW), I stopped following the progress of the NCAA tourneys. Sorry I missed it last week.

Good to see another Canuck doing well at his chosen level.
