Richard Hastings' MVV from Maastricht lost 3-4 on a late goal to Emmen in Dutch 2nd tier action this Friday night. Hastings played the whole 90. The team remains third from the bottom but in a dangerous zone after its immediate rivals also lost.

Everton FC battle Wolverhampton in a clash to escape from the relegation zone in the EPL. The game is played at Goodison Park @ 15:00 hrs local time (10:00 E.T.). Tomasz Radzinski will definitely get a place in the starting lineup, forming a dynamico trio with Wayne Rooney and James McFadden.

I`d bet all I have that Radzinski gets on the scoresheet today!!. Stay tuned!!

De Guzman & Stalteri each played 90 today in the Bundesliga. Hannover lost 3-1 to league leaders Stuttgart, Stalteri & Co move into 2nd with a 3-1 over Bochum. Hilarious picture of Stalteri on the Bundesliga.de site in the match report, practically tackling Ailton to the ground (Ailton got a hat-trick today for Bremen).

Iain Hume has scored for Tranmere to give his team the lead in the 68th minute. De Vos has made the subs bench for Wigan, currently tied, 2-2. Still no sign of Brennan for Norwich, which is really getting annoying. Be nice to find out what exactly is the problem with that injury (as Jim thought he would be healthy for the Finland friendly last month).

Bent isn't dressed today for Plymouth, who are leading 2-0 without him. Perhaps he picked up a minor injury?

Bircham has started for QPR.

Bent looked like he had a muscle pull up high on the leg in the last 10 minutes vs. Ireland. Since he's susceptible to them, better be cautious.

Terry Dunfield started as Bury took a win over Northampton and push over midtable in Div 3 England, only 9 pts off the lead after four straight wins.

Mark Rogers did not dress for Wycombe.

Davide Xausa got in the last 10 minutes subbing in for Latapy as Falkirk took a big 0-4 win away vs. St. Johnstone, going top again in Div. 1 Scotland.

Saturday eve, Fernando Aguiar had a full match for Benfica who needed 2nd half goals to beat Estrella Amadora 3-1 in the Portugal Cup 4th round. Aguiar had one dangerous shot on net just tipped for corner in m. 30. The team is into the 5th round.

In Austria, Ante Jazic was subbed out m. 82 for more firepower as Rapid Vienna got the 2-2 draw in m. 83 in a home match vs. Casino Bregenz. The team ends the first half of the season as leader with a point over Austria Vienna.

More games Sunday:

MLS Cup final, with Onstad in nets and de Rosario a question mark. Maybe he has just enough run in him to come on for the winner once again.

Sankt Gallen with Daniel Imhof close off before the winter break vs. Wil. Game underway as I am writing.

In Scotland Hearts and Hibs face off at 3 their time.

In Belgium La Louvière with Michael Klukowski is home to Antwerp, also at 3.

Tam Nsaliwa's Regensberg also has an afternoon match in Bundesliga 2.

From the NCAA Division I men's tournament front.

Jordie Hughes (Soph) from Victoria scored the third goal in Coastal Carolina's 3-0 first round tournament win over Davidson. They now move on to play North Carolina in the second round.

Nathan Li (Fr.) from Delta scored on his penalty attempt as the University of Kentucky beat Cincinnati on pentaly kicks to advance to the second round. He and teammate Riley O'Neill (Fr.) from Campbell River now move on to play perennial powerhouse Indiana. As an aside O'Neill was named Mid-American Conference newcomer of the year for his six goals in 18 appearances for the Wildcats.

Old Dominion also advanced to the second round after a 6-3 win over N.C. State. Toronto's Gianni Cimini (So.) picked up an assist in the victory. He and his mates now get the number two seed University of Maryland as their reward.

In another tourney note Josh Simpson's University of Portland won 3-2 over Oregon State without the Canadian national teamer. The Pilots would have to go on a lengthy run in the post-season to get him back. Portland now move on to play Vancouver's Gavin Hobbs and the University of Washington in the second round. The Huskies were granted one of the 16 seeds and didn't play a first round match.

Last, but not least, Charles Darkwah (jr.) from Toronto and his University of Binghampton teammates advance to play St. Louis after beating Fairleigh Dickenson 1-0. Fairleigh Dickenson sports three Canadian starters: Marc-Elie Andre, Sergio Riquelme and Mathieu Savania, all from Montreal.

Another Canuck missing out is Matt Britner (fr.) from Halifax as his Brown Bears lost 2-0 to St. Peters in the first round.

Daniel Imhof played 90 and took a m. 40 yellow card as Sankt Gallen fell to lower table Wil 2-0. The team is mid-table with a game left before the winter break.

In Scotland Kevin McKenna played the whole game at the back as Hearts beat Hibs (with no Fenwick) 2-0 on a couple of own goals. Hearts continues to stay close to Rangers in the league, and are firmly entrenched in the UEFA spot they are deserving this year in Europe as well.

In Belgium Michael Klukowski looks to have got 90 in the midfield as La Louvière drew with Antwerp 1-1 this afternoon. Kluka had a shot just go over the bar and seems to have been active going forward. The team is doing very well, upper-mid table after fighting off relegation last year, 8 off of a UEFA spot with the season not yet half over.

Tam Nsaliwa had 90 minutes, seemingly midfield, as Jahn beat Ahlen 3-0 in the 2nd Bundesliga. The team is a bit above the relegation zone and doing better lately.

MLS Cup ®

Mid second half, wish I were watching but am listening live.

Earthquakes were up 2-0 at the half (Ekelund and Donovan), Beasley beat Onstad early 2nd half on the near post, but San José got one back immediately (Mulroony). Chicago came to 3-2 on a SJ own goal that Onstad maybe should have come out to pick off. Then Chicago was given a penalty and Onstad stretched out and stopped it. So still 3-2. Very busy first 15 minutes of the 2nd.

Dwayne Derosario has come on with just over half an hour left.

Yes, you should be watching - it is a great game. Onstad wasn't completely at fault on the own goal. He came out and should have been able to have gotten to the ball had it gone to the Chicago player. Unfortunately it went off the SJ player's head (who was standing farther away) and into the net.

Why, in American pro team sports championships, is the winning trophy first given to the team owner? Agoos got the trophy from the owner, right?

I guess if I was footing the bills, I would want the trophy first, too. I don't know . . .

Johnny Moore is the GM I think.

Onstadt wasn't even marginally at fault on the own goal. Damani Ralph had inside position on Roner so Onstadt was defending against Ralph more than playing the ball. The ball just went over Ralph's head and Roner put it in. Now on Beasley's goal, point the finger at Onstadt, because he should have had that one. Fortunately, Thorton had a howler of a game in the Chicago net, and showed exactly why a 35 year old vet with possibly the least amount of athletic ability of any keeper in the MLS can still be best at his position. The mental aspect of the game is always underrated.
