Alright, let's give this idea a try. It's going to be a slow couple of weeks with international matches coming up on the weekend and next week, but maybe that's the best time to try this. Comments are welcome.

[*]In this thread post match updates on all Canadians abroad for November 11-13, 2003.

[*]If you find updates posted in some other thread or on the other Voyageurs forum then post them here as well, but be sure to credit the original poster.

[*]If there is news that is particularly significant (eg. someone scores a big goal, someone gets injured, etc.) then feel free to begin a new thread on that topic in order to draw greater attention or start a discussion, but also post that news here.

[*]Some comments on news posted in this thread are okay, but let's not let this thread go off into a long discussion. If the news already appears in another thread (as per the previous bullet) then post your comments in that other thread, otherwise if you want to say something significant or if it is likely to generate replies then begin a new thread.

Hey DJT, I am in favour of this idea if you think it organizes things better. As long as special stuff can appear in its own thread.

Could I suggest that the natural week is from Friday to Thursday. Thus the last thread should be Nov. 7-13, and this week's should be 14th to 20th.

My reasons: Friday we see lower division England games and Bundesliga 2 in advance of the round, plus a few other leagues advance games, like Belgium or Switzerland. League games continue on the weekend and onto Monday in places like England and Portugal. Then if we have luck our Canucks are in Eurocup games (just McKenna and Aguiar are left), so we could potentially get such matches from Tuesday to Thursday. Often midweek English lower divisions also play.

Another thing: since I began the last one, an advantage was that I could alter the title according to the latest news of interest, otherwise it could fall flat. Who would go on on a Tuesday when virtually no action had been on the previously day? But without that title re Menezes, which was a good one I thought, perhaps noone would have clicked back in.

Now if you want to open the sticky and alter the title fine, if not it means leaving it a bit cold and hope for other posts on big news on other threads.

Marc Bircham played 90 minutes today in a 2nd division home fixture for QPR as they defeated Brentford 1-0. He picked up a yellow card in the 77th minute.

The win puts QPR into one of the promotion positions for the time being, although it seems a silly thing to mention so soon in the season (it is from a match report at soccernet.com).

Fernando Aguiar played 90 as Benfica managed to tie Maritimo, 1-1 today. The result puts Benfica in third place.

Maritimo at home went ahead mid 2nd half, but Fernando robbed a ball in the midfield and put Simao free on a partial breakaway down the left side for him to score a nice one of the outside of his right foot m. 82 to tie it. Fernando travels to Prague today.

Reports say that he was feisty in the midfield but not overly impressive in ball control, apart from the assist. Petit has been operated for his injury and might be out for two months, meaning Fernando is likely to get a lot more playing time between now and the new year.

I agree with Jeffrey about when the week should start.

Wisla Krakow had a scrimmage using their young players today in which Belotte as a second half substitute scored a goal. His team, the Reds won against the Whites by a score of 2-1. Both "Red" goals were scored in the second half which is really positive.

Okay, Jeffrey and Mimglow, let's go that route. As of now our weeks are Friday to Thursday.

Jeffrey, about altering the thread titles... First of all, whether or not the thread is sticky should not affect your ability to alter its title. Now, I like your idea, but it depends on who creates the thread each week. That person would have to care to alter the title consistently (I guess I could do it sometimes, but I can't be sure how often; I don't know about the other mods). If you personally would like to take responsibility for this then you are welcome to create each week's thread, say every Thursday? I have started a new thread for this week, but if you want to take over then go ahead and create a new one. It would be good if you copied the guidelines that I posted in my thread over to your thread, at least until everyone gets used to the routine.
