Gian-Luca
Good article, but what's this crap about our win last November being the first victory by any Canadian team over the US at any age category in a qualifying match since 1957? I can think of a few NASL veterans that might haves something to say about that.

I'm not sure exactly which match you are talking about, but according to the CSA's records we've defeated the United States 8 times since 1957 in official qualifying competitions at the senior, Olympic, U20 and U17 levels, so that article is way off: Senior: 1970 WCQ (October 17, 1968), 1974 WCQ (August 20, 1972), 1978 WCQ (December 22, 1976), 1982 WCQ (November 1, 1980) Olympic: 1988 OQ (May 23, 1987), 1992 OQ (May 17, 1992) U20: 1997 WCQ (April 23, 1996) U17: 1989 WCQ (November 23, 1988)

"The 3-2 win in Charleston, South Carolina over the U.S. sealed qualification for UAE 2003 on 17 November 2002. The victory coupled with a 2-0 result over El Salvador and a goalless draw with Haiti to see the Canadians finish top of their qualifying Group B. It was the first time any Canadian side (in any age category) had beaten the States in qualifying since 1957" It was the first time we beat the States in points (we won the group)and it doesn`t mention us not beating them in a game since 1957. Can you imagine? Just wanted to give my opinion. Thanks!
Gian-Luca
That explanation doesn't hold any water either. We eliminated the US from World Cup qualifying in the semi-final round for the 1978 & 1982 World Cups. Not only did we beat the States on those occasions but we also finished ahead of them in points, certainly for 1982 and via a one-off playoff match in 1976 for the 1978 World Cup. Can't be bother to check, so I'll postulate that perhaps he meant beating the US in the United States. The original seemed odd when I first read it as the United States is only a recent arrival as a CONCACAF power, and is a nation that we routinely beat up until 13 or 14 years ago. Gian-Luca
Well, the author didn't really hint at that in the article. But no doubt he got something wrong.

Ah, now that appears to be true. All those wins I listed above were either in Canada or at a neutral site. I should have observed that earlier. Whatever. It was fun to list wins over the US regardless.
