Bent came on as a substitute in the 5-1 win against Vale

Port Vale's Andreas Lipa has apologised to Plymouth midfielder Jason Bent over a racist comment he aimed at the Pilgrims player.

Austrian Lipa has been fined a week's wages which will be donated to the anti-racism Kick it Out charity as well as Argyle Against Racism campaign.

"Port Vale have apologised to Plymouth Argyle for the incident in which Jason Bent was subjected to a racist comment by Andreas Lipa," read a statement from Vale on the Plymouth website.

"Andreas himself has written to Jason expressing his profound regret for the comment he made during Saturday's match, said in the heat of the moment and regretted immediately afterwards.

"Andreas has said to the club that he wished he could turn the clock back as he is in no way racist and totally supports the major drive within football to drive out racial abuse.

"Jason himself has confirmed that, in the light of that action, he accepts the apology and does not wish to take the matter any further."

Ironically, the alleged incident happened during the Football League's Anti-Racism Week Of Action.

Local children carried a banner around the pitch before the game and a taped message from former Vale favourite Robbie Earle was played over the tannoy.
