Nutty Finn
[?] How many spectators attend soccer matches in Canada? Is there any chanting support for teams? Flares, smokebombs etc.?
Jarrek
Depends on what city you visit. The top A-League teams draw anywhere on average 800 fans in Calgary, 4,000 in Vancouver, 7,000 in Montreal, and 2,500 in Toronto - per game. Yes, we have flares and smokebombs - see http://www.TorontoUltras.com

JayWay
We lack the soccer culture that many European and South American nations boast. But a Canadian soccer fan's passion for free goods (the more useless the better) can not be questioned. You toss a sample-size box of crispers into the crowd, free of charge, and you will hear a roar that puts the Stadio Olympico to shame.
mtlfan
The big seller is the Women's National Team, they draw between 12,000 to 29,000 in full size venues. A WUSA franchise may be on the way if the league survives.
DarnCherry
quote:Originally posted by mtlfan A WUSA franchise may be on the way if the league survives. Which would prove that a club team would draw as few people as the A-League teams do because the games would not be "big name" events, and whatever team it would be would not be as dominant as the Canadian women are over most opponents. Many people like to go to an "event" and many people like to go to support a winner, but put an average team in the same city for 10 home games, and you won't see crowds of 12-29000 on a regular basis.
