The Ref
Congratulations to the Canadian team and coaching staff. I assume that it was "golden goal". So really either team could have won. It speaks very highly of the women soccer in Canada and the training program run by Pellerud and Bridge. Great stuff girls! You make me proud. It was a golden goal--Canada lost possession right after the kickoff, leading to a Brazilian partial break. A great pass and a good chip, though I think maybe Swiatek was wrong to come off her line (easy for me to say, of course). But I'm sure the Brazilians are worried when our U-19 team can come out in a gold medal game and come back to take them to extra time. I hope we meet in the WWC, where we'll be beyond all excuses--age, home field, playing surface--and we'll cream them. Excellent work, team! beachesl
Small mistake by Rosie, Mexico of course won't be going to the WWorld Cup next month, having got beat out by Japan for the last half-spot. WAY TO GO GIRLS! For many not going onto the USA, this was their World Cup for this year, and they did us proud!
beachesl
Hmmmmmm, imagine if they did that during the Stanly Cup playoffs.... Wonder if they really had problems or if they just decided not to run it into the news. It could have been an overall mistake, as it looks like the CBC techie just hit the rewind button (it was replaying some of it in reverse), so maybe they thought the game was over! Can't blame the Dominicans, it was CBC that taped the game on Thursday. Any way it was, it's pretty bad.
