Mimglow Posted May 30, 2003 Share Posted May 30, 2003 Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s Under-19 Development Team were defeated 3-1 by Japan on Thursday, May 29th at the adidas cup in Houston Texas, USA Canadian forward Josee Belanger opened the scoring in the 18th minute beating Japanese goal keeper Yuki Saita. Canada’s lead didn’t last long as Japan’s Asuka Kubota equalized the score in the 23rd minute followed by forward Mizuki Yoshida who scored on Canadian goal keeper Stephanie Labbe twice in the 33rd and 35th minutes. Both teams were scoreless in the second half. In the earlier match of the day, US defeated the US Youth Soccer U-19 selects 4-0. Canada’s next match at the adidas Cup will be played on Saturday, May 31st against the US Youth Soccer Selects at 6:00 p.m. local time. The format of the tournament has changed; all teams will play each other with no finals.
