  • TFC and Nick Dasovic make divorce official

Toronto FC made official today what many already knew - former TFC head coach Nick Dasovic wasn't in their future plans.

When the Aron Winter and Paul Mariner era arrived, it was clear the Canadian coach was going to be squeezed out. How quickly? No one could tell, but when he didn't travel with the team to Turkey in the pre-season the writing was on the wall.

Word spread shortly after that he had left the club completely (two CSN sources still swear he did walk away before being reigned back in by his family) and while he took a North American scout role, under the provision he could be with his family in Vancouver, it remained obvious Dasovic was just using the position as a stop gag before his next job opened up.

His connection to the national team program lead some to speculate the move to Vancouver might be sign of an eventual return to the team he once played for, while others saw his connection to the U-23 national team program as a natural career path. Still, others saw his well known friendships with Montreal Impact technical director Nick De Santis and head coach Marc Dos Santos as another possible direction.

But there aren't a wealth of Canadian-born coaches coming through the domestic system and for as much attention as we pay the importance of overhauling our youth systems, the development of coach's is one that is sorely in need of re-design. So perhaps, that's why there has been so much discussion behind the scenes, these past few months, as to where this young-by-coaching standards (and soon to be Hall of Fame inductee) would go.

Speaking to several sources after today's announcement, it's not entirely clear where Dasovic has taken up residence but the sentiment was the same - do not be surprised to see him quietly introduced by one of those groups in the days ahead.
