Toronto FC acquired forward Quincy Amarikwa from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for a conditional draft pick today.
The move was a poorly kept secret this week, with Amarikwa already in town waiting for the transfer to take place. The 24-year-old last played with Colorado, but was waved earlier this year.
He trialed with New York -- the Red Bulls went so far as to aquire his rights, thus requiring Toronto to trade an asset to New York -- eairler in the month, but that deal fell through. Conditional draft picks are rarely used by clubs. The trade is essentially a paper shuffle.
He's expected to be a depth player.
"Quincy is a hard worker, with great athletic abilities and a positive attitude. That’s what we look for in all our players. We feel he will fit in with our club nicely," Paul Mariner said in a press release.
