Tactical Analysis: Forge FC vs York 9 FC

April 27th, 2019 was a day for all of us Canadian soccer fans to remember for a long, long time. Our wildest dreams came to fruition at Tim Hortons field, where Forge FC took on York 9 FC in the inaugural Canadian Premier League match. While the event was very much a celebration all-round, we all know that the Canadian Premier League has been split up into 2 seasons, and with this first Spring season lasting just 10 matches, this was a rather important match for both teams – not just a soccer celebration.

I don't see why this can't be on the game thread, frankly. Are you going to post a separate thread for every one of the 98 games in the season just to promote your site? As if it were not the only media channel covering the event.

This is a thread auto generated by the system for articles that are posted.

The thread goes into a forum that is dedicated to article comments and any site content.

Sorry, did not differentiate between who was posting what article on the site or elsewhere.

    We could turn it off.

However, some sites have no commenting ability and, rightfully, don't want to deal with the ensuing ******** and spam.

I have no criteria as to how this new site should work best, that is for you and the media channels to decide.

I'm just a forum buff as you know.

They should not be a significant % of the threads created and they are held in one forum.

They will appear in Fluid View or Activity Stream though.

If it gets to be a PITA we can change it.

I was asked to start posting links to NSXI's articles in the article section. I find it pretty strange that there would also be forum thread automatically created for each article posted, but that's how it's currently setup. Generally, we don't do too many match reports on NSXI, as we prefer to focus on interviews & storylines, so I don't think there will be 98 of these tactical analysis... I do anticipate a large number of posts (there are almost 2-dozen contributors after all).

I like having it show up in the activity stream, but perhaps having it create a forum post directly is not ideal. Only a few sites are currently testing it out, and with a high-activity site like NSXI, this could quickly cause issues and potentially overpower the proper posts in the forum (not to mention hide articles coming in from elsewhere)...

Perhaps I should develop a "newletter" style of post, to highlight "all" of NSXI's headlines over the week? It could look decent, but then title of the post wouldn't be beneficial & the content wouldn't be timely.

    Thoughts?

Let's leave it as it is for now.

It may be possible to remove a single forum from the Activity stream if it gets to be too much, but it would defeat the purpose of it.

    We can try different things.

I am setting up a point system and raffle contest thing shortly.   People will get points for participation on the site and we will have weekly/monthly draws.    To encourage people to use the article stream I was thinking of awarding higher points for reading the articles and posting in the comments threads.

The goal is to drive traffic, and it will increase over the next year.

It was explained to me, I understand why it happens. I am fine if it is how the board will work.

I just think, as a basic principle, that we should try to consolidate threads as much as possible.

    • Chance he is the CB going to Cavalry with the Waterman money?
    • How am I not surprised at this?! 😁
    • The league isn’t even fully professional. If anyone watched the YouTube video that Camargo and Niko posted, Camargo was going out to job interviews. He was one of the best players in the league last year and has to work a part time job.  This should not be the case. If the league truly wants to develop talent, and sell players off we need these guys focus on football 100% during the season. Lets speculate the starting 11 eats up 60% of the cap. The average starter would make around 40k. However if we bump the cap even too 1M. That number jumps to 55ish which makes it significantly easier to live as a full time pro. I hope the league tries to bump up the cap even slightly ASAP. It makes a big difference for the players and hardly any difference for multi millionaires.  If we are looking at 2026 as the year this league should take off. Even bumping to cap to 1M would only cost the owners 1.5M from now till then.
    • I saw our first friendly under Floro in Oliva, near Valencia, Spain, vs. Mauritania.  I think me and my son were the only Canada fans there. There were about 35 Mauritanians, including the ambassador. Then, because the camp was a big one, there were about 10 Canucks not dressed for the match. The best part of that game was that the reffing was very good!
    • The csa has been doing this for years- playing friendlies in front of nobody in neutral sites in Europe. Playing New Zealand in Spain, Belarus in Turkey, and more recently Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan In Austria.
    • Hadn't thought about it but you're right. CSA is spending big on a longshot. If it works it would be huge though.
    • No clue what Kurt has been saying. I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be a top team tho ? I think we have one of the strongest and deepest teams going forward if Cordova is as good as I expect. The backline which was one of the best in the cpl is still intact, we have the best GK in the league... the concern and only real concern for me is midfield. Tommy has to bring in 1-2 solid midfielders, if he does that I predict we are in the finals again.
    • NYC is shared by two foreign clubs, so I dont see why a foreign club would be scared to enter the GTA
    • Sign up for the newsletter on the CSA site, they'll send out the presale details.
    • In today's brave new soccer world, countries MUST play a number of friendlies on a regular basis in order to maintain a high-enough FIFA/Coca-Cola ranking to have any hope of competing at a level such as the HEX and the World Cup Final. So is this new FIFA/CONCACAF World Cup qualifying format proving to be a viable concept for cash-strapped national soccer associations like the CSA that want to get ahead? In addition to the costs involved with competing in the Gold Cup competition, the CSA has also recently been forced to absorb the cost of playing an additional number of matches in the new Nation's League competition. Looking at the attendance figures of the friendlies Canada has played this year in an effort to qualify for the HEX, the financial returns don't look promising at all: The official attendance for the March 31st, 2020 friendly against Trinidad & Tobago will total less than 100 spectators. The official attendance for the March 27th, 2020 friendly against Trinidad & Tobago will total at best 6,200 spectators. The official attendance for the January 15th, 2020 friendly against Iceland totaled 20 spectators. The official attendance for the January 10th, 2020 friendly against Barbados totaled 5 spectators. The official attendance for the January 7th, 2020 friendly against Barbados totaled 5 spectators. The aggregate attendance for these 5 matches would add up to a grand total of 6,330 spectators at best, which is well below the CPL average.
