Tactical Analysis: Forge FC vs York 9 FC

April 27th, 2019 was a day for all of us Canadian soccer fans to remember for a long, long time. Our wildest dreams came to fruition at Tim Hortons field, where Forge FC took on York 9 FC in the inaugural Canadian Premier League match. While the event was very much a celebration all-round, we all know that the Canadian Premier League has been split up into 2 seasons, and with this first Spring season lasting just 10 matches, this was a rather important match for both teams – not just a soccer celebration.

I don't see why this can't be on the game thread, frankly. Are you going to post a separate thread for every one of the 98 games in the season just to promote your site? As if it were not the only media channel covering the event.

This is a thread auto generated by the system for articles that are posted.

The thread goes into a forum that is dedicated to article comments and any site content.

Sorry, did not differentiate between who was posting what article on the site or elsewhere.

    We could turn it off.

However, some sites have no commenting ability and, rightfully, don't want to deal with the ensuing ******** and spam.

I have no criteria as to how this new site should work best, that is for you and the media channels to decide.

I'm just a forum buff as you know.

They should not be a significant % of the threads created and they are held in one forum.

They will appear in Fluid View or Activity Stream though.

If it gets to be a PITA we can change it.

I was asked to start posting links to NSXI's articles in the article section. I find it pretty strange that there would also be forum thread automatically created for each article posted, but that's how it's currently setup. Generally, we don't do too many match reports on NSXI, as we prefer to focus on interviews & storylines, so I don't think there will be 98 of these tactical analysis... I do anticipate a large number of posts (there are almost 2-dozen contributors after all).

I like having it show up in the activity stream, but perhaps having it create a forum post directly is not ideal. Only a few sites are currently testing it out, and with a high-activity site like NSXI, this could quickly cause issues and potentially overpower the proper posts in the forum (not to mention hide articles coming in from elsewhere)...

Perhaps I should develop a "newletter" style of post, to highlight "all" of NSXI's headlines over the week? It could look decent, but then title of the post wouldn't be beneficial & the content wouldn't be timely.

    Thoughts?

Let's leave it as it is for now.

It may be possible to remove a single forum from the Activity stream if it gets to be too much, but it would defeat the purpose of it.

    We can try different things.

I am setting up a point system and raffle contest thing shortly.   People will get points for participation on the site and we will have weekly/monthly draws.    To encourage people to use the article stream I was thinking of awarding higher points for reading the articles and posting in the comments threads.

The goal is to drive traffic, and it will increase over the next year.

It was explained to me, I understand why it happens. I am fine if it is how the board will work.

I just think, as a basic principle, that we should try to consolidate threads as much as possible.

    • As for potential venues in Canada, I feel we should be beyond temporary stands around a pitch in this country. King George V was great for the time, but it's woefully substandard compared to what's available right now in Canada. If Halifax can get something a bit more permanent (or even permanent looking, with proper changerooms, restrooms and media facilities), it'd be a perfect spot for games against smaller nations that won't draw flies elsewhere. The CSA should be rewarding cities that have spent resources on building proper infrastructure, IMO.
    • The baseball fields in MLS haven't been used for World Cup qualifiers so it's a moot point, but we're also talking about Yankee Stadium and Citi Field (not some random public parks where dogs **** in the outfield grass) so it's not like the venues themselves are terrible. They just look bad for soccer because they are the wrong shape and the entire soccer playing surface isn't permanent grass. Same thing with many of the cricket pitches in the Caribbean. They are considered top class in their sport but look (and sometimes play) awful for soccer. The real "cow pastures" have mostly been phased out — CONCACAF didn't allow Cuba to use their national stadium in Nations League because of the lack of proper lights (the same issue ATCO Field would have), but the playing surface is also one of the worst I've ever seen at an international level. Most venues at that level are gone these days.
    • People are going to be repeatedly disappointed if they expect every prospect to perform like Davies has as a teenager. Most just don’t possess those tools yet. I’d personally prefer to see how players like Colyn perform against men in the CPL, than risk losing them to bigger clubs through a loan/option to buy, but I get the draw for the players to chose a more proven pathway
    • Norman broke up so much and calmly played the ball away when he was at Queen of the South
    • Tenerife wanted him bad but he went to Puebla, His current price means Spain don’t want him now
    • Or Spain just wasn't interested in him.
    • I seem to remember him playing CB with Pacific at least once?
    • MLS staff writer Matthew Doyle believes Inter Miami plans on converting Norman to a CB  ... please lets hope so. We saw how successful this type of re-training worked for Laryea going from attacking mid to RB. Hopefully those at Inter Miami have the same eye for talent as Vanney and Norman can develop into a quality defender.   https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/11/20/armchair-analyst-state-miami-nashville-rosters-post-expansion-draft •  Did they get David Norman Jr. with the intention of converting him to center back? He's a big, competitive kid who's a pretty good central midfielder and played most of this year in Canadian Premier League, but probably lacks the vision and footwork necessary to play in the middle of the pitch at the MLS level. If that sounds something like Aaron Long five years ago, or Nat Borchers before him, well, that's where my head is, too. There's a pretty rich history of young CMs who have the physical tools to do so being converted to center back. (For what it's worth, if I was a Canadian men's national team fan reading this I'd be rooting like hell for Norman to be converted to CB, which is the thinnest spot on Canada's roster.)
    • They were Korean FA Cup champions this year, so they'll be playing in the group stage of the AFC Champions League. They were semi-finalists in Champions League in 2018 as well, losing out to the eventual champions. Great club to land with in a really exciting league.
    • Damn...Henry get on the phone and convince him otherwise! I was really hoping he would end up somewhere in Spain or Italy
