      Torsten Frings didn't outright announce his retirement in this German interview from earlier this month. However, he came pretty close.


      Ich hatte gerade einen kleinen Eingriff an der Hüfte. Aber alles wieder okay. Im Januar reise ich rüber und starte in die Vorbereitung. Ein Jahr noch, dann reicht es aber auch. Ich will nicht noch länger Fußball spielen.
      Using Google translate and some German 101 that basically translates to "I had surgery. I'm fine now. I want to play one more year, but that's it."

      The rest of the interview deals with his perspective of the level of MLS (good teams would be lower Bundesliga sides, bad teams would be mid-table B2), his love of Toronto sports (MLSE helps him get tickets), MLS travel (much worse than he thought it would be), Toronto (loves it) and the team (loves feeling part of a close group).

        I would have loved to see Frings stay on as a coach with TFC.

        Was wondering when somebody was going to pick-up on this, as it was in the Kick Off on MLSsoccer.com early last week. Hardly surprising and hopefully a medium-to-serious injury this season doesn't bump up that retirement plan by a few months.

        Still, good to know he likes the city and funny/interesting to see him rate TFC as a mid-table 2.Bundesliga team.

        not surpised at all. im a huge fan of frings -and I hope he can contribute to the level of his capability and finish off 2013 on a high note. reality may alter this, but I hope not...jmo

        Frings said even when signing on with TFC in 2011 that his intent is to return to Germany to coach so I really cant imagine him staying with TFC beyond the 2013 MLS season.

        Yeah, while it'd be nice to have him stick around and lend his worldly expertise to Our Little Club, he's all but gone on the record that he'll return to Germany and has a position waiting for him a Werder Bremen.
