• Report: Peralta deal finalized

A newspaper out of Honduras is reporting that the deal to bring Arnold Peralta to Toronto FC is done.

According to Newspaper Diez, which quotes C.D.S. Vida president Carla Dip, a representative for Peralta will arrive in Toronto on Monday to finalize the paperwork that will see the Honduran international transferred to the Canadian side. The report does not go into the terms of the deal but does say that the move is presumed to be permanent one for the 23-year-old player.

      Dip had this to say:

"Today, Sunday, I can confirm the contractor will arrive to sign on Monday."
Peralta himself is also quoted in the story.

"I'm looking forward to all work and joining the Toronto."
What do you think of this signing? Peralta is used primarily as a defensive midfielder - do you think this indicates current captain Torsten Frings is on the way out?

Toronto needs to burn the curse of BMO. Curse of injuries. There is something wrong in the city where a curse needs to be lifted.

TFC will solely be judged on if it can finally turn a corner in a league where winning should be easy with the right management. If they fail to make the playoffs and provide a winning culture, this signing would be a waste of time. If they start winning...then it was a good signing.

I'm not sure the qualifier for being 'a good signing' is dependent upon if Toronto is successful. Having said that, they need to make the playoffs this year. But then they've 'needed' to make them for the last three probably.

I'm with the guy above. Is there any context to this signing? What do people who know this guy think of him?

According to this article http://goo.gl/t13iB he was involved in something of payment dispute with his club Vida prior to this sale. He claims to have not been paid at all for the first half of this season.

The article describes him as an important part of Vida's midfield. He's also been selected for the Honduran senior team ahead of the Central American Cup later this month. It's not exactly their first team but it bodes well that he's considered good enough to be on it.

He's a decent player. Good technique and touch. Makes overlapping runs. He's not a going to take someone on one on one but will attack with speed. Better technical player than Hall and solid positionally and defensively. However, if he's playing on defense I don't expect him to usurp Eckersley. Cover for DM and RM. Also, Alex Lopez is similar to a Luis Silva type player - kind of a number 10 but seems to switch wings more than anything.

dont see him moving Frings out so much as he would be playing next to him. Itd make Dunny back up (which for all his effort, he really is)

I don't think this necessarily means that Frings is out because Peralta can play multiple positions. He could be the box to box midfielder we haven't had since Carl Robinson or he could be the new RB. We'll see.

I've seen him play. I mean he won't replace Frings in terms of talent, obviously, but the hope is that TFC would lose Frings and stop paying DP money for defensive mids.

In that regard, I think if the idea is to do that, then it would probably be a good signing.

Guevara was a box to box mid?? Interesting.

Peralta could be a great signing. He's got great stats and can still improve a lot. I only hope he'll get that chance at TFC, cause if Mariner looses the first two games you can be sure that he'll only play veterans.

Btw even if you have Frings, you do need some back-up. And maybe Frings is not even coming back, for all we know.

Maybe this frees Frings to push forward into a more attacking role? Takes some defensive pressure off the old man.

i think once we know where he is going to be played it will mean a lot more to us as followers. frings is likley to return due to contract, and the high dollar payout to sever ties. if parelta is put into a mf role -assuming frings is back-we have an interesting combination of speed, skill, experinec b/w the 2 mf players.
we need to build the mf ...i think this could be v positive??...jmo

solid signing. more solid young PROs (rather than naive college players) is what TFC needs to make a quick jump up the standings. a solid player on a good Honduran olympic team. This will help.

Neymar ran rampant down that wing most of the game.
