It's the first day of spring and we celebrate by springing into action with Episode 35 of our West Coast Soccer podcast.

It's an international weekend but that hasn't stopped MLS scheduling matches for depleted teams and the Whitecaps head to Houston for their first away game of the new season.

Pierce chats with the voice of the Dynamo Matt Pedersen, radio broadcaster with Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM. He looks ahead to this weekend's clash and has some words of comfort for Caps fans as the team head into the fortress that is BBVA Compass Stadium.

Turning our attention to home, I sit down with Michael Findlay, the Director of Soccer Operations with BC Soccer, to discuss the CSA's much talked about LTPD plan, player development in general and what to do with the black hole that currently exists from players in the 18 to 23 age range.

We have a variety of guests this week for your listening enjoyment.

Turning to MLS matters, Jeremiah Oshan from Sounder At Heart joins us to preview the first Cascadia Cup clash of the season between the Sounders and Timbers on Saturday.

Aller guten dinge sind drei. All good things come in threes.

That is one of the few phrases that I actually remember from my four years of high school German. And things do come better in threes, or so I've been trying to convince the wife.

Our show this week must be doubly good then, because we have two of them, as it's Episode 33 of our West Coast Soccer podcast.

Our main guest this week is Adam Jardy from The Columbus Dispatch, as we look ahead to the Whitecaps meeting with Columbus Crew on Saturday.

      Happy New Year!

Ok, we're a bit late, but better late than never, as we return with our first show of 2013 and it's a MLS season preview.

How have the Whitecaps done in their offseason rebuild? Will they make the playoffs again? And who are the main challengers in the Western Conference? We discuss all of that and a lot more besides and there's some snippets from Caps coach Martin Rennie and president Bobby Lenarduzzi, but you need to listen right to the very end to get them all.

Our main guest this week is Rudi Schuller from Goal Canada. He's here to discuss all things TFC. Well, maybe not all things. We didn't have that much available bandwidth.

Have a listen. And apologies for the shitty sound at my end of things.

An eventful 2012 is over. There’s been highs, there’s been lows, successes and failures, and generally the feeling that the Whitecaps have something good to build on even further in 2013.

Pierce Lang and myself are joined once again by AFTN writer Steve Pandher to pick over the bones of this year in the last part of our three part podding extravaganza. Apologies for the delay in the uploading of part three - technical issues.

This episode we take a look back at the months of September to December, when the Whitecaps got their season back on track just in time and made MLS history before the next round of roster roulette got underway.

We also decide upon our ’Sweet Ride Brain Freeze Of The Year’.

Have a listen and have a wonderful and safe New Year, wherever you may be listening.

Pierce Lang and myself are joined once again by AFTN writer Steve Pandher to pick over the bones of this year in part two of our three part podding extravaganza.

This episode we take a look back at the months of May to August, when the Whitecaps good start started to slowly become a distant memory, there was more Voyageurs Cup failure and Martin Rennie’s squad merry-go-round was in full effect.

With this being our last show before Christmas we also look at some Crimbo related football songs and finish off with a nice festive ditty from the only rock band to feature a former East Fife player as their lead singer – that we know of anyway!

So we decided to not just be grumpy but to go out and get him.

Our main guest on this week's show is 'Once Upon A Time' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor Lee Arenberg.

Lee plays Grumpy in the hit ABC show, but he's also a huge LA Galaxy fan and he's excited about this weekend's MLS Cup. We talk about the big game, his love for Man United and of course since he's in one of my favourite shows on TV at the moment, there lots of chat about Storybrooke and I try and score a date with Little Red Riding Hood.

We're also joined in the studio by Sportsnet and Goal Canada writer Martin MacMahon to discuss all the comings and going in North American football this week.

We talk Colin Miller, Kenny Miller, the Whitecaps nominees for Canadian 'Player of the Year', Don Garber's 'State of the League' address and a lot more besides, including your latest 'Sweet Ride Brainfreezes of the Week'.

The Whitecaps are playoff bound and when the "West Coast Soccer" guys headed along to training on Tuesday, they found a relaxed squad enjoying their moment in the sun torrential rain.

One word seemed common in the training scrums - "frustrated". It wasn't the way anyone wanted to get there, but get there they did anyway.

We pick over the bones of the weekend and look ahead to Los Angeles in just over a week's time. You know, because nobody is caring about the Salty ones on Saturday.

This weekend’s match between Vancouver and Portland could prove pivotal in the grand scheme of things, for both clubs as they push forward with their individual existences. It is no secret to fans in the Pacific North West that both squads find themselves reeling as they enter this weekend.

Vancouver powered out of the gates and found themselves in fourth position in the (West) table mere weeks ago. After a string of injuries, suspensions and international departures, the Canadian part of this expansion brotherhood is in a tailspin. Pundits and punters alike have begun to push the panic button.

As the Whitecaps search desperately for the prescription for their recent poor form, hapless Portland present a possible golden apple that Vancouver so desperately needs.

The plethora of problems North of the border pale in comparison to the pandemic issues at hand for last place Portland. Perceived strengths and poorly constructed plans have put Portland in position to plan a party, celebrating the first overall pick in this post seasons Super Draft.

Many people will point to a recent drop in production by Designated Player Kris Boyd. After a 2 goal output on July 15 against the LA Galaxy, he has not managed to pot a goal in the clubs last 6 matches. The Scottish import found himself riding the pine as the team played in the Big Apple last week. ...
