    • Funny....that was my very first instinct that you were thinking about Rutty ....but then I thought naw he couldn't be..... I blame the JMR/JRR initialisms
    • This is just a cynical move on the part of Pinto da Costa, since elections for the presidency are Saturday and they say they'll be the closest since he was first elected in the 80s.  The idea is to force the hand of other candidates two days before a vote, since the logical sentiment is to fire him, not renew him.  This way anyone coming in will be obliged to deal with a hefty severance compensation if they want to get rid of him.  I recall speaking to a certain former Canadian youth international at Porto who told me that Pinto da Costa basically wanted to be his agent, control his contracts, and make money off him, while still a teen. And when he refused, he was benched. For many he is the guy responsible for making Porto competitive against perennial Benfica, giving it a powerhouse status it did not formerly have. For many others, a guy who has installed corrupt ways of doing things at the club. I think there are plenty, as well, who agree with both of those versions.  Today is the anniversary of the Carnation Revolution that did away with the dictatorship in the 70s, the story is truly fascinating. Congratulations to all freedom-loving Portuguese here.
    • Credited with an assist on this deflection off the keeper which led to an extra time goal for Malmo to give them the win- currently 5-0-0: https://x.com/malmo_ff/status/1783578566166225304?s=46&t=spIaqlQfufAO3HreB1455Q
    • Is it me or are all these candidates absolutely absurd? You don't take a manager with no National Team experience into your first Copa America and home World Cup. Stop calling Mourinho and nail down some realistic candidates: 1. Thomas Christansen 2, Juan Carlos Osorio 3. Luiz Suarez Let's stop fucking around here.
    • So I guess Staq will be moving on then.
    • Sorry.  Multitasking and thinking I was in the JMR thread.
    • Larin bagged 17 goals as a 20 year old in MLS.  So..... I'd like to see JRR bag a dozen or so this season before we get to far along the replacement process.  I can see him doing that (hope he does) but we always get ahead of ourselves.  And Oluwaseyi has 3 goals already in 200+min..... if we are talking of guys getting primed...ohhh its nice to actually have a player pool.
    • He started and scored the second in a 2-5 win in the Norwegian Cup. Away to Eik Toensberg just across the fjord, Magnus Carlen's home town (and, so they say, the oldest town in Norway).  More importantly, he was scouted today by the Phillippine national team manager, who is Belgian. https://x.com/amtcfc/status/1783572557259563423 Apparently last month they launched an aggressive talent-scouting programme for all teams, youth and senior. This tweet suggests they may call him for the next WC qualifiers vs. Vietnam and Indonesia, in the early June window.
    • Conceicao is not leaving. In fact, he has his contract extended. https://www.fcporto.pt/pt/noticias/20240425-pt-fc-porto-e-sergio-conceicao-prolongam-contrato
    • 3rd in the Nigerian Canadian striker depth chart let's see him go to a better league.
